Bye 2025! 👋

I’ve been wanting to make a year in review post but kept second-guessing if it’s too late into 2026, but I realized it’s never too late for reflection! This carousel feels like a Where’s Waldo. Can you find yourself in it lol?

I chose the word “SHINE” to be my word of the year because I wanted to shine brightly in different aspects of my life in 2025. While I don’t know if I was fully able to do that, I do know that I was incredibly blessed with so many fun opportunities in 2025. Although the world feels like it’s falling apart, I have hope that 2026 can become a year of growth, change, and abundance for all of us.

Here’s my planner and journal line-up for 2026! I finally had a chance to do my techo kaigi (手帳会議), which in Japanese translates to planner meeting. Essentially, techo kaigi is a time to reflect on the notebooks you want to use for the year.

My notebook stack has definitely decreased over the years, but I’m so happy that I’m in a place where I feel successful and creative with the notebook systems that I use. The full chatty setup video is up on the channel! 📕📘📗📓⁣

Creating is difficult during tough times. January has been a tough month for me and my family, and taking time to do something creative daily has been a struggle. I found that linking my preferred "bed rot" activity, watching TV, has been a great way to direct my creative efforts, and so I started documenting my TV and movie viewing in my PLOTTER. Media journaling has been a great way to lean into something comforting like watching TV and has allowed me to turn it into something that makes me feel creatively satisfied.

Luckily, my dad's situation is a lot better and I'm slowly getting back into my creative habits. Nevertheless, I think media journaling has been a fun way to feel creative in January even when the world felt so dark. I'm glad I have this practice in my creative toolbelt when I'm feeling down or going through it.

I chose the word “SHINE” as my word of the year because I wanted to share my authentic self more brightly in 2025. However, January had other plans. Natural disasters, political turmoil, and even health scares to loved ones have made me reconsider my word of the year. How can I shine when the world is so dark? How can I share my spark when it’s barely there? The thing is, even though we cannot shine brightly all the time, there are those around us that shine brightly when our spark is dim. ❤️‍🔥

I’m forever grateful to everyone who has showered our family with warm messages and check-in texts. My dad is still in the hospital, but we’re hoping that his surgery will be scheduled soon. I hope despite all these hiccups early in the year, 2025 will be a year that I will be able to shine brightly! 🌞

While bed rotting at home on Saturdays is tempting, sometimes it’s nice to take advantage of the weekend and spend a day getting creative. I completed these journal pages on a sunny Saturday in late October, recapping my brief visit to Vancouver during Canadian Thanksgiving.
