The storm last night brought both destruction and beauty. Two steps forward and one step back. The cycles of nature and life continue. We’re already working on repairs. We will continue to plant for the fall and winter and even for the spring. And we’re building some new things around here too!

It’s another one of those days. We don’t post pictures or talk about the background of being meat, farmers. But a reminder from time to time is important. These are animals we care for day and night rain or shine any temperature and usually in challenging circumstances. This process has not gotten easier overtime. It’s actually gotten significantly harder as we cultivate live and appreciate more than ever the full circle of the farming that we do.

The snow is gone. Yesterday was beautiful and had that tangible feeling of peace and quiet with the snow falling and accumulating on the ground. Michael and the team did their best to cover the plants in the fields and tunnels, and to tuck the seedlings nicely into their warm germination room. We’ll see what winter crops survived, and we’re already well into spring planting preparation.

Summer is here, the lowly onion has been harvested and now undergoes a 3-4 week “cure”. Farmer Mike is an onion fan under two possible scenarios…onions chopped very fine or blended into salsa, cooked to complete brown where the sugars are released and the onion has almost melted.
