Here are some kind words from a customer who wanted to share his experience but asked to remain anonymous.

"I was calling for a hot water heater warranty replacement part of the controller on a newly self-installed hot water heater that for me was a so heavy to lift into the attic in the attic I was worn out. The last thing I wanted to do was take it back down when all it probably needed was a new controller for the pilot and temperature settings.
I called the manufactured AO Smith to inform them of my situation. AO Smith answered the phone after a reasonable hold in voicemail and gave me a warranty reference # and 3 contacts I could call to request my water heater be fixed under warranty. I called the one closest to me and had to leave a voice message and got ghosted and never heard back. I went down list to see if anyone would answer the phone.
I called the Hot Water Guys last because they are farthest from my home. Fortunately, a live person answered the phone on third ring when I called Hot Water Guys, not sure why that is a high expectation but getting harder to find these days. I asked did she need to know my water heater brand and model. She said she already had it by referencing the warranty reference # while we were talking. I was really impressed by that. I got scheduled the following day, and the repair guy showed during the scheduled time with the correct replacement part, not sure why that is a high expectation but getting harder to find these days. The repair guy was in and out in 40 minutes, which I thought was as efficient as humanly possible. I asked why not just replace whole unit, he educated me to do that requires the tank be drained, not sure why educating customer is a high expectation but getting harder to find these days. He performed the repair like he could do it with his eyes closed and really knew what he was doing, not sure why that is a high expectation but getting harder to find these days.
I’ve replaced 6 water heaters myself during my 50 years of home ownership because installation costs seemed sky high. If I ever did decide to pay to have a hot water heater installed, I would certainly use The Hot Water Guys." Offer expires 2/29/2024

Here is an oldie but goodie and a reminder that your attic can reach upwards of 140° in the summer heat! Without sufficient air flow, the pilot will go out. Replacing parts will not help when the lack of airflow is the issue.
