As a Home Inspector, I thought I'd seen it all. Electricity turned off but the guy living there pulled the meter and used car jumper cables to restore power to the house. Extremely dangerous and extremely Redneck. Unbelievable!

Did you experience broken water pipes along with damage due to the recent freezing weather? If you did, I hope it has been repaired and things are back to normal. One thing to consider is how it was repaired. If who ever made repairs did not properly dry out your your home with dehumidifiers and treat the exposed wood framing with a mold inhibiter / killer prior to installing drywall, you might have created a breading ground for mold. Some contractor's say the moisture content needs to be below 15% while others say it needs to be below 10%. I did not have damaged water pipes, but if I did, I would want to see the moisture content below 8% prior to covering it up.

This picture is a front porch support post with Termites. While inspecting a home the other day the home owner was present and asked why I was taking pictures of one of his porch support posts. When I told him I thought it had Termites, he pulled the post off the house and cut it in half to prove me wrong. Well, the home owner is in the process of replacing all support posts now.

Do you have Galvanized water pipes in your home? Galvanized steel pipe was widely used for water plumbing up until around mid 1970s. These pictures were taken last week at a home in Deer Park TX and show severe corrosion. Right now is the end of life for galvanized steel water pipe. The corrosion will cause the pipes to leak water and damage ceilings, walls, floors, etc. Also, the water pressure will usually be lower with galvanized pipe due to internal corrosion and calcium buildup.
If you are buying a older home, you really need to know if it has galvanized water pipe. Know before you buy! Inspect Texas can HELP! We can advise you if the home you are buying has galvanized water piping.
