So many various waves of emotions these last few months. Nothing has stayed consistent, but the one thing that has is Art.
Where everything has failed, Art has thrived.

The photographer and I talked once again in collaboration as to what a photo like this might mean to an artist like me.
This photo is significant to me because it symbolizes so many forms of characters and ideologies I have never been. It also represents things I’m slowly becoming.
In essence, I’m disheveled, I’m thinking in sadistic ways, and I’m tearing through my skin- all to just feel new again. Like a cicada in the summer time shedding its vessel.

But I’m still grateful for this journey no matter the pain. All is well and only getting better.

I think I have grown bored of listening to what I should do and what is expected.
Lots of people think I’m weird but I’d rather die than change who I am.

The photographer and I had a great discussion during this session about what it means to be an artist. How do we grow? what do we REALLY want to show? Is it okay to break the norms? I answered to him that my photos and what I feel behind the camera are typically anti-normal anyways, and I love this! This is who I am. He said to me that he feels the same with his work! So we both do weird things while we work as artist to help capture the aesthetic we want to create. The most important thing we discussed (and agreed on) was the idea of working together. This was powerful for me because I come from a background in the arts where I was always told that “This is an ensemble. There is no ‘you’, ‘me’, or ‘I’, it’s US.” Not only is this important in art but in life. Everything we do in our lives, whether it be at home, work, on the streets, in the studio, or on the stage, WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER. Leave your fighting and narcissism outside those doors.
