On this day in 1985, the BRAT PACK was born. Few today remember that its origins were a single (scathing) article in New York magazine. The story skewered a group of young actors and would change the course of my life (and the lives of a few others). I spoke with David Blum, the writer of the article, at length and in depth, recently for my upcoming BRAT PACK documentary.
Initially, I hated the term (who wants to be called a brat? Or be lumped into a pack?) But over the course of the years, I came to see it the way you always saw it, as a loving moniker bestowed upon a group of actors favored by a generation. The BRAT PACK has grown to be an avatar or your youth, the object of abiding affection and good will. That I've come to embrace what I once reviled shows how life keeps moving, keeps teaching, keeps surprising. Thanks for showing me the way on this one!
