We have read many complaints about deductibles being a big issue from the last storm. The insurance market has changed over the past 5+ years. We no longer have $1,000, or 1% deductibles. We now have 2% - 5% as the "new normal". I have provided more info to help some understand better.

Insurance deductibles are a way to share the cost of your insurance claims with your insurance company. Here's a simple way to understand it:

What is a Deductible?

A deductible is the amount of money you agree to pay out of your own pocket before your insurance starts to pay.
How Does It Work?

If you have an insurance claim, you first pay the deductible amount. After that, your insurance covers the rest, up to your policy's limit.
Example:

Suppose your car insurance has a $500 deductible.
You get into an accident, and the repair costs $2,000.
You pay the first $500 (your deductible), and then your insurance pays the remaining $1,500.

Why Have a Deductible?

Deductibles help keep insurance affordable by preventing small claims, which reduces the overall cost for the insurance company and, in turn, for policyholders.
They also encourage people to avoid minor claims and take better care of their insured items.

Types of Deductibles:

Fixed Deductible: A specific dollar amount you pay for each claim.
Percentage Deductible: Common in home insurance, where the deductible is a percentage of the insured value.
Choosing a Deductible:

Higher Deductible: Lower monthly premium, but you pay more out-of-pocket if you have a claim.
Lower Deductible: Higher monthly premium, but you pay less out-of-pocket if you have a claim.
In essence, a deductible is a cost-sharing arrangement that helps balance the costs and risks between you and the insurance company.

This is not a test!!
Beryl is coming our way and today and Sunday AM will be your last day to prep before rain and wind will pick up.
Landfall and strength is still not 100% but we are looking at strong estimated Cat 1 for sure with Maragorda and Corpus being the bullseye. Expect 45-65+ MPH winds in Harris and Galveston County with 6-8 inches of rain. Winds will increase the further south you go and will reach estimated 90mph +

We will be working remotely and we are prepared to help. Email and text might be your best option to reach us with claims details in the event you have damage.

Please take pictures of any damage and don’t throw anything away until an adjuster sees the items. Remember deductibles have increased significantly and it’s important to protect your property as much as possible.
