Earlier today, an enthusiastic group of Covenant volunteers met at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston to support their UU the Vote summer postcard writing project. These postcards will help increase voter turnout in the greater Houston area. Thank you for your hard work!

Members of Covenant's Civic Engagement Working Group meet every Wednesday to work on this project. You are always welcome to join! Contact us for more information.

Please join us for worship this Sunday, June 14.

Raymond Stubblefield writes:

Covenant turns sixty-one this month. How might our understanding of Jesus' identity as a teacher help us sustain and renew our vision to embody hope, love, and compassion? Our Scripture passage is the story of Jesus sending out the twelve disciples to heal and help the hurting.

From our Senior Minister:

"I am a woman and the minister of a Baptist church. That I am Rev. Laura Mayo is not an outcome many of the Southern Baptist Sunday School teachers of my childhood or youth would have predicted nor desired but here we are nonetheless. Sometimes, what is meant to make us smaller, only makes us more determined. I can speak only for myself and the surest way to guarantee that I will get something done is to tell me I cannot do it.

"Jesus challenged the conventional patriarchy of his culture. Jesus depended upon the ministry of women. He was ministered to by women and he ministered alongside women. The very first preachers of the Good News of Easter were women.

"The Southern Baptists don’t get to decide who is called by God. They don’t get to control what Chrsitian means, either. The title Christian is being used in ways that don’t represent me or, frankly, Jesus’ ministry but I am not willing to give it up. The Southern Baptists can vote on who they want to exclude. Jesus was busy including. They can have their votes. They cannot have Jesus. They can't keep Christianity all to themselves deciding what it means. They can't control who the disciples were in Jesus’ time and they certainly can't control who the disciples are now."

God's boundless love cannot be washed away!

Covenant celebrated our annual Pride service on June 7. Rev. Denise Junious, our former pastoral intern, gave the proclamation; Shane and Drew hosted Pride-themed hospitality; and our Pride Pick-Up Choir sang Sherry K's "I Know That God Loves Me."

We look forward to marching in the rescheduled Houston Pride Parade later this year!

Worship Service June 7, 2026 06/06/2026

Please join us for worship this Sunday, June 7.

Rev. Denise Junious writes:

This Sunday is Pride Sunday. As we celebrate Pride, we remember that the tapestry of our community is woven from many threads. Each person brings unique gifts and experiences that help us better understand what it means to live, love, and belong together. In all our vibrant diversity— our colors, shapes, sizes, identities, and abilities— we reflect the beauty of God's creation and remain rooted in God's everlasting love.

Texts: Hosea 5:15-6:6; Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26

Covenant Church is ready for Pride! A team of hard-working volunteers spent Wednesday and Thursday evenings blowing up balloons, building our Pride float, and sorting hundreds of beaded necklaces. Thank you to everyone who lent a hand!

We hope that many of you are able to join us to march in the Houston Pride Parade tomorrow - see the link in our bio for logistic information - and for our annual Pride Sunday worship service on the morning of June 7.

Covenant donates all cash offerings to an affiliated mission organization on the First Sunday of each month. Putting faith into action, this coming Sunday, June 7 we will support Lone Star Legal Aid. LSLA protects and advances the civil legal rights of low-income Texans through advocacy, legal representation, and community education to ensure equal access to justice. This gift builds on our May 31 Adult Education conversation with Mariame Aana from LSLA and reflects our church’s commitment to social justice. Thank you for helping us live out our call to “do justice” together.

We will also collect our First Sunday Food Offering for the Wesley Center’s Food Pantry. We welcome all non-perishable food items. Every donation will make a difference, although we are most in need of peanut butter, canned protein (such as tuna, chicken, and salmon), and canned soups.
