"Throughout your reading of Luke, I hope you’ve seen what I believe is the major premise of Luke’s Gospel: Jesus’s concern for the outsiders, outcasts, and outlaws. Jesus conveyed a clear sense of God’s love and mercy for them and focused on calling them to return to God. When we come to the Crucifixion, Luke highlights Jesus’s concern for the outlaws, even as Jesus himself is put on trial, convicted, and counted among the criminals. And at his resurrection, we see God’s final act of lifting up the lowly. Jesus identified with our pain and suffering. He became an outsider, an outcast, and an outlaw for us. But in his resurrection, he lifts us out of the depths and gives us love, joy, and peace." Adam Hamilton, Luke: Jesus and the Outsiders, Outcasts, and Outlaws

"If you knew you only had one week to live, where would you go? Who would you spend time with? What would you say and do? As we come to the end of Luke 19, this is, in fact, what Jesus knows: in a week, he’ll be put to death in Jerusalem. In this next section of readings, we’ll turn to the final week of Jesus’s life and the things he said and did on the days leading up to his crucifixion. Each word and story express what matters most to Jesus." Adam Hamilton, Luke: Jesus and the Outsiders, Outcasts, and Outlaws
