Hotel room blocks go hand in hand with events and there’s no denying – things are changing. Here are five 🖐🏼 examples of how the events industry is shaping before our eyes.

Non-Fungible Tokens 💸

NFTs have so far been primarily used for proving ownership of digital assets, however, it is projected to change many industries in the near future. Coachella, which kicked off its first weekend on April 15, has said they will issue exclusive NFTs that will work as a lifetime pass to the event. Due to NFTs transferable nature, that would mean should the owner not want to attend the event that year - or ever again - they could simply sell to someone else.

NFTs have also been used as giveaways in swag bags. JPMorgan offered this as an incentive to attend its first Crypto Economy Forum which took place last year.

Augmented Reality 💭📱

So what’s the difference between augmented reality and virtual reality? AR uses a real-world setting while VR is completely virtual. AR can be accessed by your smartphone or some type of device that enhances the virtual and real world. For example, you point your phone towards a street and it will give you more information such as street names, names of local businesses, history of a historical building within your screen, etc. The main purpose of an event is to create an experience for your attendees. As a brand, you want your potential buyers to feel something and AR opens an entirely new way to immerse people into what you want them to feel when they purchase your product or service.

Health and wellness, especially during the pandemic, became really important to many. By working from home, people had more time to work out, cook healthier meals at home, and prioritize their physical wellbeing. So now that the world has opened back up and events are taking place on the reg, how do we adjust? On almost every event trend report we’ve read, non-alcoholic offerings have made the list. Asynchronous Events 🕒

These events are a form of hybrid events where the in-person and virtual events take place at different times. With how globalized our world has become, we can understand the draw of these events. You have the ability to upload and broadcast happenings at the event a little after they have taken place in real time and/or you can hold live sessions again for the remote attendees, making the content “on-demand”.

We’ve all seen the struggles that come with hosting a hybrid event – to the point where some companies are now hiring full time hybrid event moderators whose main role is to troubleshoot and ensure these events are running seamlessly. There are many benefits to hosting an asynchronous event such as undivided attention to both your in person and online attendees, more cost effective, less troubleshooting, and the ability to have more engaging discussions.

I’ve been waiting for the right time to introduce myself on here and I couldn’t think of a better weekend. For those of you who don’t know, my father passed away suddenly last November. He would’ve turned 50 years old tomorrow. He knew about my dream to start this business and he was actually the first call I made after I failed my test in the first steps to become IATAN accredited. It was right before my 25th birthday and I was crushed. To be totally honest, I gave up after that. I set this dream to the back burner and while I still wanted it, I felt it was unattainable.

I still don’t think I’ve fully come to terms that I don’t have both of my parents on this earth. I don’t think it matters if you’re 12, 28, or 68. Losing a parent sucks. But it also ignited something in me to work even harder, to ask the questions that matter, and to be an advocate for myself.

So, without further ado, my name is Lauren Taylor Lothringer and I’m your room block gal. LT Room Blocks is an IATAN accredited travel agency that specializes in room blocks for weddings, law firms, construction, music and entertainment and more. I earned a degree in Tourism Management from Texas A&M University, specifically RPTS (whoop! 👍🏼) and have spent the last 7 years learning the ins and outs of the event industry on all levels. LT Room Blocks is located out of Houston, TX but we take clients from all over with any destination. ✈️ We handle all room block logistics such as site locating, contract negotiation and room block management.
