International Day of the African Child
Today, we honor the resilience, potential, and dreams of African children.
The International Day of the African Child reminds us that every child deserves access to quality education, safe learning environments, and the opportunity to reach their full potential. While significant progress has been made, millions of children across Africa still face barriers that make learning difficult.
At All Children Count, we see both the challenges and the incredible possibilities every day. Through teacher training, literacy programs, educational resources, and direct support for students and schools in Ethiopia, we are working to ensure that children are not only enrolled in school—but are truly learning, growing, and thriving.
When we invest in children, we invest in stronger communities, brighter futures, and lasting change.
Today, we celebrate the creativity, determination, and potential of every African child. Their dreams matter. Their voices matter. Their futures matter.

Helping Teachers Strengthen Everyday Classroom Practice
We recently spent time with 28 primary school teachers from two of our partner schools for a practical training session focused on strengthening teaching in the classroom.
We asked one guiding question:
What makes teaching effective?
Together, we explored a few key areas that make a big difference in learning:
* Clear lesson objectives
* Strong explanations
* Student engagement
* Checking for understanding
We also talked about classroom presence and how much impact a teacher’s voice and body can have when used intentionally.
It was a meaningful time of reflection and learning with educators who are eager to grow and improve their practice.
We look forward to doing more hands-on trainings like this in the future.

What does ONE seat in a classroom actually mean? 🪑✨
To a child, it isn’t just a piece of furniture. It is the exact place where their entire world opens up! 🌟
When we invest in filling a seat for a child, we aren’t just funding school enrollment—we are setting off a beautiful ripple effect that builds a foundation for life. As you can see, filling just one seat unlocks four incredible pillars for a child:
🏠 ACCESS: A Foundation for Education
A physical place in a classroom provides entry into structured learning environments, opening doors that would otherwise remain closed.
📚 LITERACY: The Key to Knowledge
It gives them basic reading and writing skills, critical thinking development, and the tools to explore the world through books and resources.
❤️ BELONGING: Community & Identity
A seat means acceptance by peers and teachers. It provides a safe, supportive space where children feel deeply valued, included, and heard.
🚀 FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES: Unlocking Potential
Ultimately, that seat is a pathway to higher education, diverse career choices, economic empowerment, and breaking cycles of poverty.
At All Children Count, our mission is simple: ensure that no child is left standing on the outside looking in. Every single seat we fill changes a life narrative. But true community transformation takes all of us! 🙌💙
🤝 How you can be a part of our Fill the Seat campaign today:
1️⃣ Sponsor a Seat: Your support directly funds enrollment, vital resources, and learning materials for a child who needs it most.

📖✨ Building a Reading Culture One Celebration at a Time ✨📖
At All Children Count, we believe donating books is only the beginning. Children also need opportunities to engage with those books, build confidence, and experience the joy of reading aloud.
That’s why we recently launched a new event called the ACC Reading Celebration at two schools where books were recently donated.
Checkout video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/f6kE3jjwIjo?si=QAsXgZAI1kUcdnZI
More than 1,000 students from Grades 1–4 attended the celebrations. In preparation, teachers nominated student readers from each class, and classmates voted for who would represent them by reading in English or Afaan Oromo. The selected students practiced their reading passages with support from both teachers and peers and prepared to answer comprehension questions about the text.
The celebration day was filled with excitement and encouragement. We started with music and movement activities, including “Roly Poly,” to energize the students for storytime. We then shared the beloved children’s book From Head to Toe by Eric Carle before inviting our “Super Readers” to the front.
The students exceeded expectations. They demonstrated confidence, strong pronunciation, expression, and comprehension while reading in front of hundreds of their peers.
The event ended with snacks, smiley face stickers, and countless smiles.
These moments matter. Reading aloud builds confidence. Community celebration builds motivation. And access to books helps children discover their voices.
We are proud of every student, teacher, and school that made this event such a success.
