β˜• YOUR MORNING COFFEE IS DOING MORE THAN YOU THINK! 🧠🦠
Brand new research (published April 2026 in Nature Communications) just uncovered something exciting β€” your daily cup of coffee is actually reshaping your gut bacteria, and that directly affects your mood, memory, and stress levels!
Here’s what scientists found:
βœ… Both regular AND decaf coffee improved gut health
βœ… Decaf drinkers showed better learning & memory
βœ… Caffeinated coffee boosted focus & reduced anxiety
βœ… Coffee drinkers had lower stress & depression scores
βœ… Linked to a 27% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease
The secret? Coffee works through your gut-brain axis β€” a two-way communication highway between your gut microbiome and your brain. πŸ”—
So yes, your morning ritual might be quietly protecting your mind! β˜•πŸ’ͺ
⚠️ Keep in mind β€” results vary by person and coffee type. Moderation is key, and coffee isn’t for everyone (especially if you have GI issues or take certain medications).

ORAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Every April, communities across the United States unite to raise awareness about oral cancer β€” one of the most common yet preventable cancers affecting Americans today. At First Choice Pharmacy, we believe that awareness is the most powerful prescription we can offer. This April, we are proud to join the national conversation and remind our Houston community: early detection saves lives.

What Is Oral Cancer?
Oral cancer refers to cancers that develop in any part of the mouth, including the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and throat. Like most cancers, oral cancer is most successfully treated when detected in its earliest stages β€” making awareness and routine screening critically important.

Oral cancer can affect anyone, but certain risk factors significantly increase a person’s likelihood of developing the disease:

β€’ To***co use β€” smoking ci******es, ci**rs, pipes, or using chewing to***co
β€’ Heavy or frequent alcohol consumption
β€’ Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, particularly HPV-16
β€’ Prolonged sun exposure to the lips
β€’ A weakened immune system
β€’ A prior diagnosis of oral cancer
β€’ Age (most cases occur in people over 40, though HPV-related cases are rising in younger adults)

Know the Warning Signs
Oral cancer is often painless in its early stages, which is why it frequently goes undetected. Being familiar with the warning signs and performing regular self-exams can make a life-saving difference. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice any of the following persisting for more than two weeks:

Physical Signs
β€’ Sores or ulcers that do not heal
β€’ Red or white patches in the mouth
β€’ A lump, thickening, or rough spot
β€’ Unexplained bleeding in the mouth
β€’ Loose teeth without dental cause

Functional Symptoms
β€’ Difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking
β€’ Persistent sore throat or hoarseness
β€’ Numbness or pain in mouth or lips
β€’ Ear pain on one side without hearing loss
β€’ Unexplained weight loss

Prevention: Steps You Can Take Today

While no cancer is entirely preventable, there are meaningful steps every individual can take to significantly reduce their risk of developing oral cancer:

β€’ Quit to***co of all kinds β€” smoking and chewing to***co are the leading risk factors for oral cancer. Ask your pharmacist about cessation programs and FDA-approved aids.
β€’ Limit alcohol consumption β€” heavy alcohol use triples the risk of oral cancer. Moderation is key.
β€’ Get the HPV vaccine β€” the HPV vaccine is recommended for preteens but can benefit adults up to age 45. Ask us about availability.
β€’ Protect your lips from sun exposure β€” use SPF lip balm and wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.
β€’ Eat a balanced, antioxidant-rich diet β€” fruits and vegetables high in vitamins A and C support oral health.
β€’ Perform regular self-exams β€” check your mouth monthly for any changes, sores, or patches.
β€’ Visit your dentist regularly β€” dentists perform oral cancer screenings and can detect early changes you may miss.

Groundbreaking 2025 Study:

A 2025 study suggests that aspirin may help prevent cancer from spreading (metastasis) by boosting the immune system. It works by blocking platelets from suppressing CD8+ T cells, which are key immune cells that attack cancer. When these cells are active, the body is better able to fight tumor spread.

This finding highlights aspirin as a potential low-cost add-on therapy in cancer care, though more clinical research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in patients.
