One of the most common (and costly) HR mistakes? Misclassifying employees as independent contractors.

It might seem harmless—after all, contractors save companies money on benefits, taxes, and overtime pay. But if an audit finds that your "contractors" should legally be classified as employees, you could face huge fines, back pay, and legal trouble.

📌 Red flag: The more control you have over how, when, and where someone works, the more likely they should be classified as an employee—not a contractor.

💡 Pro tip: Always follow the IRS and DOL guidelines to determine classification. And when in doubt, consult an HR expert (like us!) before making costly mistakes.
