Nameless Sound
Nameless Sound was established in 2001 to present the best of international contemporary music and to support the exploration of new methods in arts education.

By now, many of you have read about the termination of already-awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and about the potential termination of the Endowment itself.
Nameless Sound has consistently received annual support from the NEA since 2012. $25,000 was awarded to us for 2025, not a dollar of which had yet been received.
These funds are not for concerts, but are specifically earmarked for Creative Music Communities - our daily program that serves over 1600 youth annually with creative music workshops. These workshops use trauma-informed collaborative music sessions towards goals of healing, learning, creativity and play. They serve some of the most marginalized Houstonians: homeless, victims of domestic abuse, refugees, and people with disabilities.
This program is the result of 25 years of research, practice, data-collection, assessment, and training. This program is now at risk.
Will you contribute RIGHT NOW to Nameless Sound to help us make up the gap in this funding? We are setting a fundraising goal of $25,000. All donations to this campaign will go directly to Nameless Sound’s Creative Music Communities.

In 2024, Nameless Sound’s weekly They, Who Sound series featured 54 concerts by 112 individual creative musicians. Of those: 74 were Houston artists, 17 were regional, 10 were national, and 11 were international.
In addition, NS brought you concerts from the likes of William Parker’s Mayan Space Station, Tar Baby, and Myra Melford’s Fire and Water Quintet.
Every single one of these events was free of charge.
It is impossible to continue this without the support of our audience. If you have ever attended one on of these events, please consider a donation to our year-end campaign.
Thank you to all who have attended, and thank you for your consideration.

Please consider a donation of any amount. Every effort is vital for keeping us together and maintaining our spirit in these unprecedented times.
"If I’m stressed out or going through something, coming here helps me. It calms me down. It makes me happy, because I like being around y’all and everyone making music. Music is my passion."
- Ethan, 13 years old
Now more than ever, our communities are in need of healing, educational, creative, and joyful arts engagements.
Whether it’s refugee youth escaping political violence, youth who are victims of domestic abuse, LGTBQ+ youth, homeless young adults, or musicians in an underserved public school system. Nameless Sound is there with youth-centered and trauma-informed programs that use collaborative music-making for learning, community building, and healing.
Or maybe it is for you?! Perhaps you rely on our concerts to provide a moment of transport and an opportunity to commune. Or maybe you have honed your own creative voice in our workshops.
It’s time to secure and safeguard the community movements and creative practices that sustain us, bring us together, nurture us, and help us to survive.
We are Sounding the Call for All.
