Most people see only where you are right now.
But they do not often understand the way that you had to take to get to where you are today.
That part of this story shows us that your path may be imperfect, yet it will still lead somewhere powerful.
Although I did not attend High School, I continued on to get my GED, obtained my degrees, and then built upon those accomplishments.
The place at which you begin has no influence as to just how far you can travel. The most important thing is to choose to move ahead.

You don’t have complete control over all of the events in life, but you do have control over how you respond to them.
Things are going to happen in your life, some things you could never see coming, setbacks, challenges, obstacles, etc.
When these kinds of moments arrive, there may be a momentary feeling as if you’ve lost control of your situation.
But it’s exactly in that moment that you have access to your greatest potential for taking action & making decisions, your ability to choose how you respond.
The decision to view something (a setback) as an opportunity for growth or as something that has stopped you completely is entirely up to you.
You also have the choice whether a challenge breaks you down or makes you stronger.
Whether fear will hold you back from moving forward or push you toward new opportunities.
It’s a very subtle but powerful shift in perspective. When you make a conscious effort to create control over how you respond to challenges/opportunities, you create the freedom to move in the direction you desire.

Choosing where to spend my time as a parent has probably been the hardest decision I’ve made.
No one prepared me for that.
The truth is that when you are creating something of value while also raising children, you will face trade-offs. The experiences and moments we create...and the ones we miss.
If we’re honest, these missed moments linger within us.
I have walked this road.
Wondering whether or not I’m spending sufficient time with my daughter.
Wishing I had taken a different route.
However, this is what I discovered.
Even though the consequences of our choices weigh heavily on us, we can still grow from each experience because every experience teaches us something. It helps define who shows up and, ultimately, what truly matters.
As a result of learning from these experiences, I now walk into the future with greater clarity, greater understanding, and more reason for living as I balance my role as a parent and grow a business.
To be clear, there is no “perfect” way to do anything. However, there is always an opportunity to grow at every step along the way if you are willing to learn.
I used to believe that confidence occurred when one felt prepared for a particular task or situation.
However, I now believe that confidence is built by taking action before feeling completely prepared.
My own confidence has developed as a result of the times that were most uncomfortable.
The times when I was still developing my skills and abilities.
The times when there was nothing else to do but push through regardless of my feelings at the moment.
When doubts arise about a decision or course of action, I attempt to reassure myself that experiencing discomfort while in this situation does not mean I will fail.
It simply indicates that I am stepping into unfamiliar territory and creating new experiences that allow me to grow.
You will certainly make errors. We all do.
But each error presents opportunities for growth and development.
Once we learn from our errors, we typically do not repeat them.
This creates confidence.
Success for me is about much more than how much money I earn.
It is also about having an objective.
It is about making a difference.
It is about being able to see the good that came from building, saying, and sharing something that had a positive effect on someone's life.
In my mind, success would be one thing: helping protect a child.
It's helping another female entrepreneur find her own confidence as she builds her career.
And then there are those times when you receive a call thanking you for helping them get to this point in their lives, "You helped me, and here I am today."
If I can achieve that level of success, I will know I was successful.
Build wealth, build a nest egg, but don't leave anything of value behind.
What does success mean to you now?

Are you tired of feeling as if your day is controlling you rather than the opposite?
This is where you can find your reset. Most people believe that to be productive, they have to do more. They are wrong.
Productive means doing the right things with intention. The change in perspective occurs once you begin making decisions based upon what you want to accomplish versus simply going through the motions.
Time block each hour of the day to give them all jobs. Plan out the next evening so that you don’t spend energy deciding what to do early the next morning.
And here is the part of productivity most people will not attempt. That which has been put off for a long time is also the thing that holds the greatest amount of influence over your daily routine.
When you get it done first, everything else seems less overwhelming. You gain momentum. You regain control. Being productive is not about being busy. It is about being intentional.
Most people do not know this about me.
I never went to high school.
But I went back.
I got my associate’s degree from HCC.
Then my bachelor’s from the University of Houston.
And a minor in entrepreneurship.
I’m sharing this because I know what it feels like to think you are behind.
You are not too late.
You are not disqualified.
And your beginning does not get to decide your ending.
If you’ve ever had to start over, this is your reminder to keep going.
What is something you still want to go back and do?

I talked about going from having absolutely NOTHING to being able to earn a GED, graduate from HCC & UH, and build FlipLok ❤️🔐
I turned what I went through into my reason for doing this. When there was a school lockdown near where my daughter attends school, it made me realize that schools are in serious need of real safety (not just safety plans).
This event triggered the beginning of FlipLok and our mission to provide safer places for children, teachers, families, and communities.

We have been working on something new, and it is coming very soon!
We have been sharing samples with family and friends, and the feedback has been eye opening. So many people deal with this, they just do not talk about it.
What starts as an uncomfortable conversation turns into a moment of realizing you are not alone. That is how we know we are building the right solution. I cannot wait to share it with you ❤️
