Breast cancer has touched so many of us and our loved ones. 🩷 Today is National Mammography Day. This day is a reminder that a mammogram is still one of the most effective tools for early detection, and early detection can make all the difference.

If you are 40 or over, please make your annual mammogram and, if recommended, a breast ultrasound a priority.

If you are under 40, schedule your annual well woman exam and talk to your doctor about your personal risk factors.

Do not wait. Do not put it off. Your health matters.

BRB...gotta relax. 😎💙 // These past few weeks have been hectic. But I can handle it because I started 2022 feeling renewed, hopeful and—most importantly—NOT burned out because of my recent holiday. I do not take it for granted. We all deserve to rest.

It's the end of another year! Tbh, it was an insane one where we learned the true meaning of adulting. And yet, we're looking forward to 2022 with great expectations. 🖤 // How would you describe your year?

Another beautiful birthday! // I've always felt a sense of pride about being born on Juneteenth. Growing up, my mom reinforced the importance of the day and what it represents.
--
This year, for the campaign presented by the Emancipation Park Conservancy (), I typed 'progress' on my postcard. While I appreciate federal recognition of history that we've celebrated for generations, shout out to the many folks who are naming, disrupting, and removing barriers to equity. From health, education and employment to justice reform, voting and other civil rights, and more! I appreciate your work and push for progress.
--
Also, rest is great for the spirit. My husband took me on a quick getaway for my birthday. Looking forward to getting back on track. 🧡

l love you, Mama. You are brilliant, beautiful, creative and generous. I am always so honored to be your daughter.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, guardians, bonus/stepmoms, grandmothers, Godmothers and mother figures! A mother’s love is nothing to play with. It’s unshakable and makes the Earth a better place to exist.

"Find strength in the struggle." It's a phrase that often comes to mind right now. // I'm reminding myself and others that we can focus on:
+ leaning into healing activities,
+ practicing gratitude,
+ leading with kindness,
+ accepting help when we need it, and
+ giving ourselves grace--as one of my close friends aptly noted.

Up next--getting back in gear, shifting some routines and looking forward to R&R! I hope you are well. Have a great week! ❤️

Called home. 💙 // James I. Campbell is with the ancestors. May he rest well.

Dad enjoyed working with his hands. He liked to fish, restore cars and carefully select antiques. He could stew some chicken, cook red rice and don't forget the field peas! Dad worked hard; he had an interstate trucking company and, at one point, he co-owned a small-town grocery store in the Lowcountry. The radio in his pickup truck was tuned to either the gospel station or NPR. He was strong-willed, always poking fun and filled to the brim with Southern charm. Love is beyond life. We miss him so much already.
---
He said that the Lord told him, 'It would be alright.' Truly, all is well. Though this second cancer journey didn't end the way any of us had hoped, we are grateful for the additional (precious) time to spend together. We are appreciative of the fact that Dad was determined throughout the ups and downs. We are thankful for compassionate care from his oncology team (particularly Dr. Tu) and other providers at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
---
The love, care, support and encouragement of family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and more is carrying us through. We thank you so much.
