Houston and Paris both have approximately 2 million residents, but Paris is dramatically denser. For Parisans, a trip across town is the equivalent of a trip in Houston from downtown to the Med Center.
Density means accessibility - in dense cities like Paris, you can walk to work, school, the grocery store, the post office - and everything you need is a few stops away on the train or bus. Cities like Houston are designed to make everything more difficult. This isn't the intention, but it is the effect.
