HANDS: I hate them, drawing them, but they are important to life and as elements in portraits. If you are going to include them you must be able to represent in a way that reads well compared to the other elements of the work. In other words... don’t f**k up the hands. These hands are from 2 different works in progress.

Super excited. This seemingly small act, to some, has helped me to continue to trust me, my ability, my dopeness. It makes me also appreciate all those people to took time to read my materials and look and think through my portfolio. This wrote my letters of recommendation and those that just said, “You got this!” I’m grateful to you all. Time to kick this s**t up a notch.

To be a young man and not a young black man. We label ourselves in a set apart fashion because we have often been disregarded as simply men or women. As much as they want us to feel outcast or set apart we are men and women. The black is evident and proud. Another image from my series centered around the people that make what it is. More on the way.

If I learned nothing from growing up, meeting people and conversing with people where and how we did, it is this. The most hardened people who have seen the toughest s**t more time than not have a soft side too. Yesterday I walked through The Nickel, the legendary and historic 5th Ward, Houston TX, and everyone I met and photographed were the warmest and kindest people I could encounter. You all will see the images soon, either as photographs or more of my drawings. I love us and I hope y’all do too!

There is no getting around it. I have been influenced by their work. I have been touched and affirmed and inspired by there words. There are each amazing artists, amazing women. I appreciate and immensely. I know there are more of you out there who feel the same!

There was a look of strength and warmth in her face. The kind that we know from those strong black women who are closest to us and whom we love with everything in us. FAMILIAR is the highest compliment I’ve gotten from anyone who have seen these drawing or the reference images me and my bro Chap displayed at ’s . The people I represent are me, they are you, they are the people we love. If you don’t feel that in my work... I haven’t done my job. If you know her tag her.
