She proudly celebrated International Women’s Day alongside other women in Molyko, Buea, an experience made possible by the skills, confidence, and opportunities she has gained through the GSR program.
By equipping vulnerable young women with vocational skills and a strong support system, we are not only transforming individual lives but also building a new generation of empowered women ready to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Our Environment, Our Future Reaches Yelisanda Community Junior Secondary School, Sierra Leone!
Today, the Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone team engaged students at Yelisanda Community Junior Secondary School as part of our flagship “Our Environment, Our Future” program. Through interactive sessions, the team raised awareness on environmental protection, reforestation, waste management, and the role of young people as eco-champions in their community.
This engagement adds to our growing impact in Sierra Leone, where the program now reaches students across 15 schools in the Northern Province. Together with our work in Cameroon, we have empowered 13,300+ students and planted 2,900+ saplings toward restoring 100 hectares by 2030.
Women at the Center: BLP Highlights Reforestation for Climate Resilience in Lower Bokova, Buea!
As part of Commemorating at Lower Bokova, Mile 15, Buea, environmental advocates and community members emphasized the critical role of reforestation in reducing floods and landslides, lowering global temperatures through green spaces, and strengthening food security. BLP specifically highlighted the importance of placing women at the center of climate action, stressing that planting trees especially fruit trees is key to combating environmental degradation and building resilient communities.
Community members expressed deep satisfaction with the knowledge gained and made strong commitments to sustained climate action through tree planting. These efforts directly support our Reforesting Hope Project and “Our Environment, Our Future” program, which has already empowered 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon and 15 in Sierra Leone, with 2,900+ saplings planted toward restoring 100 hectares by 2030.

Women’s Leadership & Community Action: BLP Celebrates World Environment Day 2026 in Lower Bokova, Buea!
On June 5, 2026, BLP, in collaboration with partners, commemorated World Environment Day 2026 at Lower Bokova, Mile 15, Buea under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The event featured insightful presentations, including BLP’s powerful session on “The Importance of Women’s Participation in Environmental Protection,” practical tree management training (pruning, shaping & pest control), and an inspiring community tree-planting exercise. Participants actively engaged, gaining valuable knowledge and skills for environmental stewardship.
This impactful celebration strengthens BLP’s Reforesting Hope Project and our flagship “Our Environment, Our Future” program, which has empowered 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon and 15 schools in Sierra Leone, with 2,900+ saplings planted toward restoring 100 hectares by 2028.

Today, June 4, 2026, the BLP Bamenda team joined 20 Civil Society Organizations and the Ministry of Environment (MINEPDED) to donate trees to the Bamendakwe community and hold a productive roundtable discussion at the Bamendakwe Palace Hall. Focused on tackling local environmental challenges, this activity forms part of our week-long World Environment Day 2026 commemoration (May 26 – June 5) under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
This engagement directly strengthens BLP's Reforesting Hope Project while creating valuable networks with other CSOs for greater impact. It complements our “Our Environment, Our Future” program, which has empowered 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon and 15 in Sierra Leone, with 2,900+ saplings planted toward restoring 100 hectares by 2028.

BLP Commemorates World Environment Day 2026: Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future!
From May 26 - June 5th, BLP proudly joined the global celebration of World Environment Day 2026 with impactful activities in both Buea and Bamenda, Cameroon. In Buea, the team organized clean-up exercises with partner schools including St. Rita Cascia Comprehensive College.
In collaboration with Back 2 Eden Association and other NGOs/CSOs in Bamenda, and Buea we carried out a week-long program featuring radio awareness campaigns, environmental quizzes, live panel discussions, tree planting, and a capacity-building workshop for stakeholders also in partnership with the Network of Environmental Stakeholders in Cameroon (NESTCM).
These activities are a true reflection of our flagship program “Our Environment, Our Future”, which is building young eco-champions across Cameroon and Sierra Leone. Through Environmental Clubs, we have reached 13,300+ students in 24 schools in Cameroon and 15 schools in northern Sierra Leone, while our Reforesting Hope Project has planted 2,900+ saplings toward restoring 100 hectares by 2028.
We remain committed to turning awareness into action and inspiring the next generation to protect our planet.

Day 2: Turning Plastic Waste into Opportunity at Gratitude Islamic Secondary School!
Today, the Bright Light Projects Buea team continued the practical training at Gratitude Islamic Secondary School, teaching students how to transform plastic waste into beautiful handmade earrings and how to earn from it, learning creative recycling skills while discovering the power of turning waste into income.
This hands-on session perfectly captures our belief that education is not just about reading books, it is about using your hands to earn a living while protecting the environment.
Through our Our Environment, Our Future program, we are raising a generation of young innovators who are both environmentally conscious and economically empowered.

World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026: Breaking Taboos and Building Allies!
Today, May 28, 2026, Bright Light Projects Buea team held a sensitization campaign workshop at St. Rita Cascia Academy College n Buea to commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day. Students from Form One to Form Five, along with Class Six pupils, were educated on menstrual health, hygiene practices, and the importance of tracking their cycles. Over 60 sanitary pads were distributed to ensure immediate practical support.
What made this campaign truly unique was the active participation of boys, who were encouraged to become allies in creating a stigma-free environment for girls. This inclusive approach reflects BLP’s belief that menstrual health is not just a girls’ issue, it is a community responsibility.

Waste to Wealth: BLP Empowers Students with Recycled Plastic Earring Making
As part of our "Our Environment, Our Future" program, the Bright Light Projects Buea team visited Gratitude Islamic Secondary School on May 25, 2026, to organize materials and demonstrate how to transform waste plastics into beautiful earrings. Students were very excited with this innovation and vvowed to learn more especially at the School's Environmental Club.
This creative hands-on activity reflects BLP’s commitment to innovative waste management, practical skill development, and nurturing environmentally conscious young champions who can turn sustainability into opportunity.
As part of our continuous efforts under "Our Environment, Our Future" program, the Bright Light Projects Buea team donated trash cans to Gratitude Islamic Secondary School in March 2026. The staff and members of the Environmental club expressed appreciation and reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration with BLP.
The team conducted a practical session with students on effective waste management, proper use of the trash cans, and promoting better hygiene within the school. This intervention highlights BLP’s dedication to nurturing environmentally conscious young champions by combining practical support with hands-on education to create cleaner and healthier learning environment
