Why Architecture?
I can look back now and say it with total certainty: architecture and I were always meant to be.
Legos were my first true pursuit. I didn't just build sets—I took over an entire room, expanding a sprawling miniature city lego by lego. By my teens, that creativity evolved. I became an artist and a collector of spaces, endlessly flipping through design magazines, ripping out pages of breathtaking homes and striking interiors, carefully filing them away for a future I was already envisioning building.
When it came time for college, I applied across the country, but the moment I stepped foot in New Orleans, I was sold. Tulane captured my heart, immersing me in a city where history, soul, and architecture was on every corner.
Then came architecture school. To say it was tough is an understatement—it was hands-down one of the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Architecture school tests your limits, pushes every single button, and demands absolute grit and passion to survive. Then, right as I was reaching the finish line in my final year, Hurricane Katrina hit. In an instant, life took a massive turn, proving how quickly the ground beneath you can shift and loss can occur. But I was determined. As soon as Tulane reopened its doors, I went straight back, put my head down, and earned my Master of Architecture.
Having poured my heart and soul into finishing that chapter, I decided to throw caution to the wind. I packed a single backpack and set off to travel the world to see everything I had spent years studying. Over four months, I hit 26 countries, bouncing from hostel to hostel meeting all sorts of people and living in different cultures. I stood in awe before the Pyramids of Giza, the detail of La Sagrada Família in Spain, the iconic lines of the Sydney Opera House, and walked through the ancient ruins of the Parthenon. I immersed myself in the temples of Thailand and felt the majesty of Bhutan's mountain fortresses to name a few.
I returned home deeply inspired, stepped into my first architectural job, and began the climb that ultimately led to founding Studio Cue.
