Who’s ordering the escargot?! 🍽️
I always love seeing what a child’s imagination will come up with. 🧠❤️
This session, we worked on spacing between words to support functional legibility—
and turned it into a menu to bring the practice to life.
Because when it’s meaningful, kids want to write. ✏️
Why does OT use toys when the goal is pencil grasp?
Because grasp starts with hand strength and finger coordination.
When kids squeeze, open, and manipulate toys like this, they’re strengthening the small muscles of the hand that support:
• holding a pencil
• controlling pressure on the paper
• writing without fatigue
When the hand is stronger, kids can focus more on their ideas — not fighting the pencil. ✏️
That’s the foundation behind pencil grasp.
He brought the monster truck.
We turned “A” into a road. 🛻
And he practiced while he played.
Engagement increases repetition — and repetition builds skill.
We started with intentional support. ✍🏻
A grip that fits his hand.
Positioning that gives his thumb more stability.
Less effort → more access.
When writing feels supported, kids can focus on their ideas — not fighting the pencil.
During his evaluation, we noticed his hand was working really hard to maintain position and endurance. So instead of “fixing” his grasp, we adjusted the setup.
Evaluation helps us understand how a child’s body works.
Treatment supports it.
That’s OT built around the child. 🤍
Sometimes it just takes an OT eye 👀
A small adjustment to the task…
and participation goes way up.
We’re building skills — and helping kids feel more confident in their everyday routines. 🧦✨
A day at Kidvancement 🤍
Different kids.
Different goals.
Different strengths.
Today that looked like:
• making play dough people
• celebrating writing progress
• practicing brushing teeth
• hosting a paper cutout dinner party
• building skills through connection and play
Every activity is individualized.
Every moment is intentional.
This is what pediatric OT can look like when it’s built around the child.
OT, built around the child.
When kids get space to share ideas, therapy becomes planning, problem-solving, and teamwork—without it feeling like work 🎲✂️
Moments like this help build the skills behind future peer interactions 🤝

Handwriting isn’t just about letters—it’s about confidence.
When therapy is tailored to a child’s needs, progress shows up both on paper and in how they feel about themselves 🤍✏️

Scooter board adventures 🛴 + hidden rocks 🪨 = instant engagement
Movement helped his body feel regulated and ready to learn, hammering built hand strength, and the hidden C set the stage for writing—without pressure ✨
Play first. Learning follows.
Not every prompt works the first time—and that’s okay.
When attention faded, we changed how we asked, not what we asked.Movement + rhythm + simple language = re-engagement 💡And just like that… he was back in it and finished the job 👟
This is what responsive therapy looks like—adjusting in real time to support success.
(This is Part 2 of this week’s shoe-transition post.)
Transitions don’t have to be rushed 👟🎶
Using a familiar song helped this transition feel predictable and calm—so he was ready to sit, get his toes out, and move into the next step.
Music + routine = readiness.
Small moments like this can make everyday tasks feel easier (and more successful) for everyone 🤍
What started as an ice cream shop turned into cutting, folding, taping, and writing — all because she wanted the play to keep going 🍦✂️✍️
In OT, we extend a child’s ideas to build real skills. Creating a purse, wallet, and credit card added fine motor practice with purpose.
Then writing the order had to be clear so the ice cream maker could read it and make it correctly.
That’s how play turns into learning 🤍
