Here are a few few tips to protect your pool and your pool equipment if we get to freezing temperatures.
1. Before we get to freezing temperatures do a backwash on your filter.
2. During freezing temperatures run your pool pump continuously 24/7 the moving water will not freeze.
3. Listen to your motor if it starts making loud noise during operation it may have trouble with the bearings. Have it checked by a professional when temperatures are above freezing.
4. Open all lines to ensure proper water flow. If a valve is shut off, no water will be flowing through the pipes and there is danger of freezing in the pipes.
5. For those who have a multi-port valve the depress the handle and turn it between two settings on the valve.
6. If your pool has an automatic pool cleaner like a Polaris remove it from the water drain the water and store it.
7. Insulate your plumbing lines either with blankets or towels to prevent freezing. Pool noodles can serve as a good insulation as well.
8. Do not use any type of electric heaters or blankets or gas heaters are lamps near your pool
