My favorite week of the year in Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida!
The Emerald Coast Open Lionfish Restaurant Week is such an incredible experience — bringing together education, conservation, and some of the most amazingly delicious dishes created by talented local chefs using lionfish. Learning more each year about this invasive predator and seeing our community turn a challenge into something meaningful is so inspiring!
I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve as a judge and be part of an event that supports our waters, our local restaurants, and the amazing people who make so special!
Important facts about lionfish:
- Lionfish reach adulthood within one year and can spawn close to 30,000 eggs every four days throughout the summer.
- All they need is warm water to reproduce
- They have venomous spines on each of their pelvic fins, which they use as a defense mechanism.
- Their numbers have exploded over the years, which is why the lionfish tournament and restaurant week were created.
- They are VERY very delicious!
