🚨Hantavirus Update: Today I participated in a briefing with the New York State Department of Health and Commissioner Dr. James McDonald regarding the hantavirus situation connected to passengers aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship. State health officials provided updates on monitoring efforts, public safety guidance, and New York’s preparedness protocols.
According to the Department of Health, there are currently 3 New Yorkers identified among the monitored contacts connected to the cruise, and all remain asymptomatic at this time. Officials emphasized that the current risk to the public remains extremely low as these individuals are quarantined in Nebraska.
Health officials noted that the virus involved is the Andes strain of hantavirus, a rare strain associated with limited person-to-person transmission in close-contact settings. Hantavirus is primarily spread through exposure to infected rodent droppings, urine, or saliva, though health officials stressed that this situation does not present the type of widespread community transmission seen with viruses like COVID-19. The incubation period can be up to 42 days from exposure, which is why identified high-risk contacts are being actively monitored during that timeframe.
While this virus is not considered highly contagious in its current form, officials also stressed that hantavirus can be very serious. Of the confirmed cases connected to this situation, approximately one-third have resulted in death, underscoring why state and federal health agencies are taking proactive monitoring and preparedness measures seriously.
The Department of Health also outlined the extensive protocols already in place should any monitored individuals return to New York before the monitoring period ends, including transportation coordination, monitoring procedures, and medical response planning. State officials continue coordinating closely with the CDC, local health departments, and public health experts to monitor developments and provide updated guidance as more information becomes available.
I appreciate the ongoing work of our healthcare professionals and public health officials to keep New Yorkers informed, prepared, and safe. I will continue to stay engaged on this issue and share updates as they become available.

New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what they’re paying for on their utility bills.
I introduced legislation to require utility companies like Central Hudson and NYSEG to provide clear, itemized breakdowns of delivery and supply charges — because transparency shouldn’t be controversial.
Unfortunately, Albany voted it down. I’ll keep fighting for accountability and lower costs for Hudson Valley families.
Utility Transparency Debate Heats Up In Albany As Energy Bills Climb Higher energy bills have prompted New York lawmakers to demand clearer billing from utilities, with Anil Beephan arguing residents deserve transparency in their monthly charges.

👮Please join me in thanking our law enforcement! May these citations signify our community’s appreciation for your service during National Police Week!
Today, the Democratic Majority on the Assembly Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions killed my bill, A09096 — legislation that would have required utility companies to give New Yorkers a clear, itemized breakdown of what they are actually paying for on their monthly utility bills.
Right now, most residents only see vague “delivery” and “supply” charges. My bill would have shown where those dollars are really going — including infrastructure costs, public policy mandates, energy efficiency programs, and other utility-related investments.
During committee debate, opponents argued that providing more information to consumers might be “too confusing.”
I disagree.
New Yorkers deserve transparency, especially as utility costs continue to skyrocket. Families should not have to call a legislator’s office just to understand why their bills keep increasing.
A similar law in Connecticut exposed hidden costs on utility bills and sparked a major overhaul of utility policy there. Transparency created accountability — and that’s exactly why we need it in New York.
I will continue fighting to ensure ratepayers know exactly where their hard-earned money is going.
Transparency should never be controversial.

To those concerned about a data center being built in East Fishkill - the town has addressed the speculation directly here. Our office will continue to support a state-wide moratorium until our concerns are addressed! Water consumption, energy supply, and noise pollution will be at the forefront of our discussions.

Proud to help eliminate the opportunity for over 100 lbs. of unused and expired prescription drugs to end up in drains, garbage dumps, or on our streets.
Thank you to all of our partners who helped make this mission a reality and worked to keep our communities safe. đź’Šđźš”

To reaffirm - we are calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to implement a moratorium on data centers. Read our letter below.
Today I sent a letter to Kathy Hochul calling for a statewide moratorium on new data centers until New York fixes our utility crisis and expands reliable energy production.
When experts are warning we already lack enough supply, it makes no sense to exponentially increase demand before addressing the basics.
I support an all-of-the-above energy strategy focused on affordability, reliability, and common sense. New Yorkers should come first.

Please join me in celebrating our local hero, Trooper Andrew K. Paterson, on receiving the New York State Police Superintendent’s Commendation Award.
Trooper Paterson’s decisive and courageous actions during a welfare check on July 21, 2025, directly saved a woman’s life. Despite limited information and dangerous conditions, he acted without hesitation, entering a smoke-filled garage and bringing the victim to safety so emergency personnel could provide immediate care.
His bravery, professionalism, and willingness to put himself in harm’s way embody the very best of the New York State Police and our community is proud to recognize his extraordinary service. Congratulations, Trooper Paterson, and thank you for your dedication and courage. 🇺🇸🚔

A somber ceremony took place yesterday at the Empire Plaza, where more than 50 names were added to the NYS Police Officer Memorial's black granite wall. Let's remember the fallen and pray for those who keep us safe.

Incredibly honored to witness the announcement of Melanie’s Law being introduced in Congress. Assemblyman Cunningham and I had the privilege to carry this bill in the New York Assembly. Thank you to Cheryl and the Melanie Chianese Foundation for allowing us to be a part of this journey and we look forward to helping Pat Ryan advocate for this common-sense bill!
