From Ben Brantley:
"It's the birthday of Jerome Robbins, the epochal choreographer who found a galvanizing new vocabulary of movement in musicals for sailors, street kids, lost boys, st*****rs and shtetl dwellers. I always think of him during Fleet Week, and whenever I hear fingers snapping tensely."

I will add to Mr. Brantley's post:
And the Siamese. Fingers curved, hyper-extended. Feet flexed. Royal spine. I will forever be connected to his iconic choreography for "The King & I." What an honor for me to have danced his steps and to stage his unmatchable choreography.

A year ago. The Heat was On in Saigon. This beautiful company of artists, headed by Lou Diamond Phillips as The Engineer brought drama, romance and epic storytelling to Casa Manana Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas. I was extremely grateful to be an Asian American Director & Choreographer bringing this story to life with integrity, honesty and passion. It was an amazing experience with amazing people!

Exactly a year ago, this group of storytellers came together to tell the epic story of "Miss Saigon" at Casa Manana Theatre in Fort Worth. It was an intense, challenging creative process of seven days. SEVEN. I had never felt so ALIVE creating under that pressure. With a fantastic creative team with me, an amazing cast, talented musicians, we collaborated and brought a production of depth and emotion to life on that stage. "Miss Saigon" is really an opera so that was a first for me! I learned alot about myself as a director and choreographer. Lessons that I will carry with me forward. And I will always cherish this beautiful cast, team and this moment in time.

“…the real thrill is in Christopher Gattelli’s interpretation of Jerome Robbins’ original choreography. From the simplicity of a polka for Shall We Dance? to the practically acrobatic spectacle of The Small House of Uncle Thomas, Gattelli’s attention to detail is breathtaking.”

The King & I opened in London's West End at the Dominion Theatre to ecstatic reviews. It was a whirlwind 2 weeks of dance rehearsal, Tech Rehearsals and previews. I was grateful and excited to be back in London with my beautiful company! If you are in London stop by and visit.
