Grateful for a chance to rest this week—the eye of the storm in the midst of this end-of-school-year while moving while finishing book edits whirlwind!

My little girl self would have been THRILLED to see her books on libraries’ recommended reading lists! My grownup self is pretty thrilled, too 🥹 Thank you, , for highlighting THE ARROW AND THE CROWN and THE CARVER AND THE QUEEN on your reading recs! Also a joy to see SHADOWLESS by my friend on here. When I was scribbling stories as a girl, I had never met a “real live author.” I’m blessed to have some wonderful author friends now—Alison among them!

HEART OF STONE has reached the final stretch of edits: the proofreading round! One step closer to release day on August 4!

Out of all the editing rounds, I find proofreading to be the most relaxing. I’m very detail-oriented and enjoy recognizing patterns and outliers. It’s also something I can easily dip into and out of whenever I have brief pockets of time—unlike drafting or developmental edits, where I need longer blocks of time to dive deep into my characters and world!

Writers: what part of the drafting and editing process do you find the easiest and which the most difficult?

I love this time of year, when everything is bursting into bloom and each week brings new flowers to greet. Right now it’s bearded irises, baptisia, and amsonia. Don’t let the names scare you—they’re just lovely pastel beauties, glad to greet the sun.
Happy 🪻!

Happy ! Lilacs always remind me of my great-grandmother. Her beloved purple lilac bush grew in front of her hundred-year-old home in Ohio and had the most wonderful fragrance! Great-grandma Freida also enjoyed writing poems—as do I!

This past weekend, I met with an awesome Girl Scout troop who had read THE CARVER AND THE QUEEN together and wanted to meet the author! It was a joy to share more with them about my writing journey as a child and an adult, to go through the excellent questions in my publisher’s book discussion guide, and to lead them through a fun creative writing exercise. The girls had fantastic questions and great insights! Talking books with tweens and teens is, hands down, one of my top favorite part of being an author 😊

Happy 🪻! Orange is generally my least favorite color, but somehow it looks much prettier in flower form 😊 This flame azalea is one of my favorite shrubs in the garden! It’s unique and vibrant—a bright exclamation point against the pinks and whites of the other azaleas around it. 🔥 And I wish I could share its fragrance along with this image. It’s heavenly!
