The evo2 had a much bigger rubber gasket to keep water from reaching the SD ports. These new units only have a magnet to close the door, and a totally ineffective rubber square covering the ports. No rubber gasket around the edges of the port, which is crazy.

The SD card doors on these units do not last, unless you’re using them on a boat with an enclosed cabin, away from the elements.

Controls, panels and electronics on skiffs and other vessels are totally exposed to saltwater spray and rain. manufacturers better do a good job waterproofing these items in order to extend their life.

The fact that they downgraded the design from their previous unit, they don’t sell replacement parts, don’t offer to fix the unit, but rather charge you a hefty amount of money for a replacement ,refurbished unit, which of course they fix themselves (making Pennie’s on the dollar, guaranteed!) and send out to costumers, for the same issue to happen soon, seems to me downright abusive and totally made on purpose to take our hard earned money.

In my case, as well as, pretty much all of my peers, a malfunctioning SD card port leaves the unit useless, as the main purpose of having them is being able to use marine cards that are useful for our business and navigation.

Recent trips…. Last batch of variety before the 3 month fly tarpon season.

Armando picked up this gorgeous permit from the back of ray, on a jig and artificial shrimp. Permit fishing continues to be solid this month so far, with the favorable weather conditions, along with warm water temperatures.

Get blessed with the right weather forecast this time of year and you can hit the jackpot. These fish will be really active, before heading out to their spawning grounds.

A challenging weather forecast with limited opportunities to score on something but it paid off for these guys with some quality fish.

Exploring..…. Being a fisherman is not about the knowledge you already have, it’s about the unknown that you’re about to learn and experience. A constant, never ending learning journey…..yet better when your good buddies make that journey lots of fun!

Winter time is here and with it, one of my favorite targets to fish for this time of the year: big barracudas on the flats….light tackle or fly, something I really look forward to every year…. A terrific sportfish! Here is Pierre with a nice one down in the keys.
