We're excited to announce international sculptor Paul Higham in Pittsburgh with a solo show, DATA SCULPTURE: New Work, opening September 12 from 6-9PM at Eberle Studios and Gallery!

Paul Higham is a pioneer of early computer sculpture and sonic art combining conceptual paradigms with computational technology. He is one of the first in a small group of international artists and academics who advocated and popularized the use of rapid prototyping, CNC, and digital technologies in sculpture. Higham organized the Computers and Sculpture Forum at the International Sculpture Center (ISC) 2001 conference in Pittsburgh.

In the UK Higham was part of the circle around Joy Division and Factory Records using early sound sampling and sequencing. His longtime data sculpture work is driven by the commodification of information and predictive patterns in dynamic compression, encryption, retrieval, and corruption. Harvesting grains of data from digital streams in real time, his work reveals organicity, hysteresis, and kinetic turbulence within contemporary culture. The work is output via CNC, 3D printing, laser etching, cast metal, and sonically, or left in its virtual evolving state.

The class starts with a field trip and guided meditation at Misty Hollow Artists Residency in Elwood City, PA. Taught by Dusty Williams and Marisa LaGuardia, this six-week class includes harvesting and processing clay, exploring hand building and surface decoration techniques, and concludes with a pit firing gathering that you will not want to miss!

Wild Clay is designed for artists from novice to advanced who want to enhance their practice or try something new. We'll see you there!

Behind the scenes framing Edward S. Eberle: Cellar Drawings OPENING TOMORROW NIGHT!!

This exhibit showcases small, previously undiscovered drawings Edward Eberle made primarily from 2008-2010, and significantly more from throughout his career. We knew these drawings had to be shared with the world! Drawing was Ed Eberle’s first joy, and primary to his artistic career. They convey a sense of intimacy never before seen in Ed's many portfolios and archives.
