👉Edinburgh’s closes are the narrow alleyways spilling off the Royal Mile — each named after the people who lived there or the trade that worked it. They’re worth exploring: wander down them and you’ll find hidden pubs, restaurants, secret gardens like the knot garden tucked into Dunbar’s Close, and views you’d never expect.
🍺 Devil’s Advocate in Advocates Close is a must-visit. Great food and drinks.
🥩 Fleshmarket Close was the city’s butcher market — blood from the meat used to drain right down the close!🤙Then I found Morrison’s Close, named for John Morrison, an 18th-century merchant. Had to check it out.
Edinburgh sounds like this. 🏴
The Great Highland Bagpipe is Scotland's national instrument — you'll hear it at weddings, funerals, military ceremonies, and rugby matches. But it started as a rallying cry in war. ⚔️ Highland chiefs marched their men into battle behind a piper — the sound alone was meant to strike fear before the fighting even started.
Today, the kilted piper is an iconic sight on the Royal Mile. 🎶

Sun Devils in London! 🔱🇬🇧
Here for a little history — ASU vs. Kansas in the inaugural Union Jack Classic at Wembley on September 19, 2026 — the first NCAA Division I football game played in England. 🏈
Forks Up across the pond! 🔱
Missed the Super. Might’ve given up too quickly. I’ll have to catch it another day.
On to Plan B! Non-rev travel—I’m just happy to get there, right?! ✈️

Can’t stop the travel. ✈️
7 nights. 7 different cities.
It’s been a busy week of airline pilot life.
Good thing vacation month is coming soon. 😎🌎
Aircrew lore: the minute you make plans for a layover, your schedule will change ✈️
I had my first downtown Chicago layover completely planned out…until I got rerouted and spent 5 hours at Midway instead.
Random and last-minute schedule changes can happen when you’re out on the line. Flights change, crews get repositioned, and sometimes you end up somewhere completely different than originally planned. It’s just part of airline crew life.
But sometimes a reroute works out better than the original plan. I ended up in Pittsburgh, where my son goes to school, and got an unexpected chance to have dinner with him. 👍
Chicago can wait. I’ll take this layover any day instead.
