The Pratt Museum is located on the ancestral lands of the Sugpiaq, Alutiiq, and Dena'ina People. "Where we are shapes who we are, and we, in turn, shape our place." The Pratt Museum's award-winning exhibits emerge from community collaborations and propel visitors beyond Museum walls to historic and contemporary life around Kachemak Bay, providing an intimate means of understanding people and place.

May is Alaska Native Plant Month! Here at the Pratt, we are passionate about native plants. Our Native Plant Collection is home to over 180 species of plants native to Alaska, and you can see them all right outside our front door. In collaboration with Alaska Native Plant Society, this month we are hoping to raise awareness about the importance of native plants to Alaska's communities and ecosystems.

Join us in celebrating the botanical diversity of our beautiful state by attending an upcoming workshop, taking a stroll through our Botanical Gardens, or browsing our selection of native plants and other unique perennials at our Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 30th.

Our grounds are open all day every day - no admission is required to explore the garden spaces and walk our trails. 🌱 If you love having a thriving green space in the middle of downtown Homer, consider becoming a Pratt Museum Member to support trail and garden maintenance year-round! https://www.prattmuseum.org/get-involved/membership/

P.S. The 2026 Alaska Native Plant of the Year is Tall Cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium)! And yes, we are lucky to have it right here in our Native Plant Collection, in the bog biome.
