Welcome to the Leather Room at Wistariahurst Museum!
This room was a part of the original house built in 1868, with it being the primary bedroom that William Skinner occupied during his life here. Eventually, William Skinner Sr. would pass away in this room from Bright's Disease or Nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys), on February 28th, 1902. After his death, his children used this room as a study. In 1912, Belle Skinner renovated the space, imitating a room she had seen in England. She hired the Baldwin Brothers of New York City to create the room you see today. Belle redecorated the room featuring the hand-embossed, folded, and painted Spanish leather wall panels.

This photo was taken of the Conservatory or "Breakfast Room" at Wistariahurst Museum. Although this room was initially added to the house as part of Belle Skinner's Music Room, it primarily served as a charming breakfast room and a designated area for the children's table during larger and more formal gatherings. It is a testament to Belle's flair for both aesthetics and functionality.
