Michigan House Republicans Release Regional Reopening Plan; Real Estate Critical
This morning Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield (R- Levering), and the House Republicans, presented to Governor Whitmer a region-based approach to reopening the economy. The plan separates Michigan’s 83 counties into 3 tiers based on risk. Under the plan, all counties would adopt the latest federal guidelines under the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Administration (CISA), which list residential and commercial real estate as critical infrastructure. Along with the Senate Republican plan issued last week, this is the second legislative proposal to list Realtors® as one of the first businesses to see eased restrictions.
Even as these proposals seek to ease restrictions on our industry, it is important that we take a measured approach that protects Realtors®, their clients, and the public.
It is important to remember that the Governor’s “Stay at Home” Executive Order still runs through April 30th. The House Republicans presented their plan to Governor Whitmer today as to begin discussions of the next step for Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic.
