January birthstone is incorrect. Garnet is not a gemstone. It is a family of gemstones. All of this was created before the science understood the gemstone families. This is the garnet family portrait.

Happy New Years! Welcome to 2026! This marks 29 years creating jewelry. It all started when I bought an Amethyst, my birthstone. The birthstone for January is Garnet. Garnet is a very large family of stones. This Victorian ring is what most people envision when they think of Garnets. Through the month we’ll cover all the other amazing garnets.

Some artist do amazing things with turquoise. This is Carl Clark’s work. I can’t imagine the time it takes to do a piece like this. I’m just in awe of his work.

In the Victorian era turquoise was given more respect as a gemstone. You saw more gold jewelry with turquoise.
