Dr. Carolyn Blakely's great legacy of service & sisterhood extends from Arkansas to Georgia!
We're grateful to have her as a Pearl member of Alpha Alpha Psi Omega!
💗💚 LEADERSHIP WEDNESDAY 💚💗
Today, we celebrate a trailblazer whose leadership transformed UAPB and created a legacy that continues to inspire generations. ✨
💎 Meet Dr. Carolyn F. Blakely 💎
Initiated into Alpha Rho in Spring 1955, Dr. Carolyn F. Blakely stands among the most transformative leaders in the history of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
A Magnolia, Arkansas native, Dr. Blakely graduated as valedictorian of Columbia High School before earning her B.S. in English from Arkansas AM&N College and a master’s degree from Atlanta University. She later made history as the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in English from Oklahoma State University.
Throughout her distinguished UAPB career, Dr. Blakely served as Interim Chancellor, Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dean. In 1991, she broke another barrier, becoming the first woman to serve as Chancellor of a publicly supported four-year institution in Arkansas. 💎
Her passion for academic excellence and student success also led her to establish UAPB’s honors program. What began with just 15 students grew into a thriving academic community and was ultimately renamed the Carolyn F. Blakely Honors College at the request of the student body.
In 2018, Dr. Blakely was inducted into the Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame, further recognizing a lifetime devoted to education, leadership, the arts, and student achievement.
Sister Dr. Carolyn F. Blakely didn’t simply lead. She broke barriers, created opportunities, and built a legacy that continues to carry her name. 💕💚
