Open Window Restoration
Restoration. Frugal, Green & Gorgeous We help homeowners keep their original wood windows. Green because we keep windows out of the garbage dump.
Frugal because they can be made energy efficient at a fraction of the cost of replacements. Gorgeous, because nothing in today's market rivals the beauty of handcrafted original wood windows.

Not once have I ever thought the line at Days too long to wait. I’m not alone, apparently
10pm at Days. Still killin’ it!
We have lost our lease and are taking a hiatus from the business. Send us an email to [email protected] and we can send you a list of other window restoration specialists in the area.
I have a friend with two 6/1 windows in Georgetown, Washington DC, that need restoration. Anyone nearby?

Just bought an old house and don't know where to begin? Restore or replace the windows? Keep the cedar siding or remove it for HardiPlank? What about the plaster walls? And how to choose paint colors?? You need to call the Old House Guy, Ken Roginski. He is deeply knowledgeable not just about restoration techniques, but about why one house looks wonderful and a similar house looks just so-so. His website is fun to read and he sometimes takes a house and photoshops the restoration so you can see the difference between remodeling and restoring and make up your own mind. www.oldhouseguy.com

From the Spa at Little River, a few before pics as we took out the first of the windows for restoration. Evidence of some deferred maintenance. Owner was advised by Ken Roginski, the Old House Guy (www.oldhouseguy.com)

Just like the guests who experience such warm and theraputic welcome at the Spa at Little River, these 1840's windows look well rested and beautiful again. thespaatlittleriver.com

The Spa at Little River, South River, NJ. C. 1840. Beautiful windows, but lots of deferred maintenance. Here are some before photos from the day we took out the sashes for restoration.
Thanks so much to all the folks who joined us at the YMCA seminar in Summit, NJ. You asked great questions, looked over our demo window (half restored, half in need of restoration), and seemed ready to think about the right direction for your heritage windows. We appreciate, more than you can know, your interest in the care and preservation of original wood windows.

We recently unstuck an 1880's window, did a small repair to the sash, re-roped and reinstalled the sash window and now it opens and closes like a dream. A small fix with a big payoff. http://youtu.be/QGWZAHmiCJs
Opening Re-Roped Sash Window with Only Two Fingers Your heritage windows, when the ropes or chains on both sides are attached to the weights in the pockets, will open with ease. See you this window, that was ...

Here's a very inspiring article--a couple thrilled to find an old house with all the elements intact, and their effort to restore and reuse as many as possible. NB the new addition in the back in which they reused original windows from the house. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/photos/0,,20248619,00.html
One-of-a-Kind Craftsman Remodel We weren’t in the door five minutes before I turned to my wife and said, “We have to buy this house.” The front porch was falling in, the electrical didn’t work, the condition was awful, but every original window, door, piece of hardware, and light fixture was still there. Judy and I hadn’t even be...
