Stay calm, stay supported, stay recorded. When CPS knocks, your first moves matter.
✅ Stay calm and courteous — everything is noted.
✅ Have a lawyer, advocate, or trusted person with you (or ask to reschedule).
✅ You are not required to let CPS into your home right away. You can ask them to return when your support person is present.
✅ If you do let them in, record the visit and save the files.
👉 These steps set the tone, protect your rights, and show you’re willing to cooperate while safeguarding your family.

When families are separated, the trauma doesn’t end when the case does.
In today’s child welfare system, removal is often the first step—not the last resort. And it’s not just happening in moments of danger—it’s happening when families are poor, overwhelmed, or under-resourced.
🔍 Separation causes lifelong harm: trauma, identity loss, health problems, and disconnection that ripples across generations. These outcomes are not accidents—they are the system's legacy.
📣 Follow for the truth about family separation—and the fight for systems that protect families by keeping them together.

Most families don’t know their rights when CPS knocks. That’s not an accident. But it is something we have the power to change.
In the coming months, Project Family First will break down what every parent needs to know:
✔️ How to protect your privacy, your child, and your home
✔️ When to speak—and when to say, “I’d like legal support.”
✔️ How to document everything and protect your digital footprint
This is more than a campaign—it’s a movement to reclaim power, demand dignity, and protect our families. will be sharing critical resource guides because no one should have to navigate the system alone.
What if child safety meant more resources, not more check-ups? We live in a system where “help” looks like home inspections and forced compliance.
For historically underserved communities, CPS often represents the extension of state power, not protection. What’s meant to be a safety net ends up feeling like a surveillance system-- one that watches and punishes.
We need a new vision of safety—one where families are met with resources, not reports. Follow “Support Without Surveillance” series to learn how we can shift the system together.
