🌸 Spring Allergy Prep: Helping Your Child Breathe Easy This Season |
With spring around the corner, pollen counts will soon be rising — and that means allergy season is on the way! At Littleton Pediatric Medical Center, we want to help families get ahead of seasonal allergies so your kids can enjoy outdoor fun without the sniffles.
🤧 Common Signs of Seasonal Allergies in Kids
✅ Sneezing, runny or stuffy nose
✅ Itchy, watery eyes
✅ Scratchy throat
✅ Coughing (especially at night)
✅ Increased asthma symptoms for children with asthma
These symptoms tend to flare up on warm, windy days when pollen counts are high.
🛡️ Tips to Manage & Prevent Spring Allergies
🌿 Start Allergy Medications Early
If your child has a history of allergies, talk to your pediatrician about starting antihistamines or nasal sprays before peak allergy season hits.
🚪 Keep Pollen Out
Keep windows closed in your home and car to minimize pollen exposure.
Change clothes and shower after outdoor play to remove pollen from skin and hair.
🧹 Clean Air Inside
Use HEPA air filters in your home.
Vacuum carpets, wipe down surfaces, and wash bedding regularly to reduce allergens indoors.
📊 Monitor Pollen Counts
Check daily pollen forecasts online or on weather apps, and plan outdoor activities on lower pollen days.
🚶 Time Outdoor Play Wisely
Pollen counts are highest in the early morning and on windy days — opt for afternoon or evening playtime when possible.
🌸 Not Sure If It’s Allergies or a Cold?
Allergy symptoms tend to last weeks to months, while colds usually clear up in about 7-10 days. If you’re unsure, our team at Littleton Pediatric Medical Center can help you figure out the cause and recommend the best treatment.
💙 Call us anytime if your child’s allergy symptoms seem severe or interfere with sleep, school, or play!
