The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has set July 7-13 as the dates for this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week. Throughout Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, and drunk or drugged driving. Drivers engaging in such behaviors will be pulled over by law enforcement and may be issued a warning or citation.

We’re poised to experience a unique celestial event, a solar eclipse, on April 8. An estimated 3.7 million people will be chasing the solar eclipse. Which will cause the biggest problem for you, TRAFFIC. Visibility could also be an issue during totality because of darkness (that’s why states already have restrictions in place for OS and OD loads).

Follow these tips to get through it unscathed:
🌒 Treat the solar eclipse like any other holiday. There are going to be plenty of tourists around, which means they’re going to be unfamiliar with the roads.
🌓 Practice safe driving behaviors. You know an increased number of distracted drivers will be on the road, so increase your following distance and lower your speed.
🌔 Expect delays.
🌕 Because you know there are likely to be delays because of the extra traffic, work this into your TRIP PLAN.
🌖 Stay focused. If driving during the total solar eclipse, keep your eyes on the road and not the sky.
🌗 Communicate. If you’re going to be delayed for a delivery or pick up, be sure you communicate that to your driver manager and the customer — just as you’d do for a weather delay.

Baltimore City Department of Transportation has changed the city’s official truck routes to try to accommodate for increased traffic following the catastrophic collapse of the Frances Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday.
Officials say that the bridge collapse is expected to bring higher-than-usual traffic volumes to city roads, and to designated truck routes in particular.
In order to minimize traffic disruptions, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation has modified the city’s official truck map, which shows which roads and highways truckers are permitted to use in Baltimore.
