The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2024 will be reckless, careless, or dangerous driving, defined as “as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.” Officers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, and drunk or drugged driving. Violators will be pulled over by law enforcement and can be cited, the CVSA says.
During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, 11,448 commercial vehicle traffic stops were conducted. A total of 4,592 warnings and 2,634 tickets/citations were given to commercial motor vehicle drivers.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducts the International Roadcheck, often referred to as DOT Blitz Week, from May 14-16. This crucial safety initiative aims to enhance the safety of commercial motor vehicles throughout North America.
This year, Blitz Week will place a spotlight on tractor protection systems alongside stringent controls on alcohol and controlled substances usage by commercial drivers. These focal points are selected for their undeniable influence on the operational safety of commercial vehicles and the overarching safety of all road users.

With the influx of drivers entering the industry, we’re seeing an increasing issue with parking for truck drivers. This is especially an issue in areas with a lot of freight coming in and out
Lets start with the places You Shouldn’t Park.
- Drivers like you shouldn’t park at private lots unless they’re otherwise directed that it’s okay to park there. Because it could result in a tow or getting a boot put on the truck.
- Parking on the side of the roadway is dangerous. The only reason you should ever be parked there is if you’re broken down and waiting for a tow or someone to service your truck.
A driver’s best bet is to park at a truck stop or a public rest area. Interstates thankfully do have a lot of rest stops, but they can fill up fast.
There are a few ways you can ensure you won’t have to worry about finding parking.
#1: Plan your Trip - Find a few different parking options depending on where you plan to end your day.
#2: Parking Apps - There are apps, specifically designed for truckers, help mitigate the parking issue because they provide real-time parking updates at nearby truck stops. It will save you save you a big headache
#3: Reserve Parking - Make a solid trip plan and reserve a spot in these areas. It’ll be a lot less stressful for you, and you’ll have to pay for a spot either way.
#4: Call Your Dispatcher or Manager - If you’re almost out of hours or you can’t find parking anywhere, call for help. Let me know that you need help. Tell them to check the closes truckstop or to check with shipper/receiver if they have overnight parking.

New Weigh-In-Motion technology is coming to dozens of interstate and state routes in Tennessee within the next year. TDOT recently awarded a contract to tolling and enforcement solutions company Quarterhill Inc. to install Weigh-In-Motion systems at 28 sites on interstates and state routes across Tennessee.
The installation of the WIM systems is expected to be completed by May 2025. Some of the WIM systems will be integrated into existing Tennessee Highway Patrol enforcement sites so that troopers can integrate WIM data into their commercial vehicle inspection programs.
The WIM systems will capture and record axle weights and gross vehicle weights as vehicles drive over the measurement sites at highway speeds … In addition to collecting data, the WIM systems will be able to determine if trucks are overloaded so they can be routed to inspection stations for ticketing
