Seeing a lot of posts about busted water pipes, I feel terrible for the ones this has happened to. Some (hopefully preventable tips).
1. Let water trickle from faucet furthest from where the water line comes in. Trickle on warm so it's running through both lines.
2. Leave the cabinet doors open to let heat work towards the lines and valves inside cabinets.
3. Obviously turnoff water supply to outdoor hose spigots and disconnect hoses. If water can't be shut-off get a foam spigot cover.
4. If you have a basement with vents leave them open to help warm the space where water lines run.
5. Wrap water lines in basement with foam pipe insulation or pool noodles.
6. Heat tape is another option for exposed water lines both in basement, attic, or outside running into mobile or modular homes.
7. All of these are cheaper and less of a headache than a burst pipe and are one and done things.
