She champions the maker-to-market movement, bringing a firsthand view of diverse craftsmanship and reminding us that handmade pieces bring warmth and soul that mass production can’t.

🖤 Today, we reintroduce Dennese Guadeloupe Rojas, founder of Interiors by Design LLC in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Dennese is a good friend, a talented designer, and a thoughtful leader. As February winds down, we continue to honor Black History Month by highlighting influential designers that we want you to know.

Recognized as one of the Top 20 African American Interior Designers, Dennese and her team create beautiful residential, multifamily, and small commercial spaces with refined, modern sophistication and the perfect amount of personal expression.

Dennese has worked with high-profile clients, including celebrities and athletes, and knows design isn’t only about beautiful spaces. Good design encompasses listening deeply to clients and collaborating to create personal environments that fit their life, family, and always uplifts their mood.

A founding member of Design Collective DC and active in local design and community nonprofit organizations, Dennese believes in mentoring the next generation of creatives in the Washington D.C. area.

Before lifestyle brands were a thing, the late B. Smith was already building one. This renowned African American lifestyle maven, restaurateur, and designer, often called the “Black Martha Stewart,” was truly groundbreaking.

A trailblazing model who broke racial barriers in the 1970s, she became the first Black woman featured on the cover of Mademoiselle magazine.

Designer of a national home collection, she inspired generations of Black designers, chefs, and creatives.

In this 2009 interview with us, she shared how she blended contemporary and traditional design with global influences to create her unforgettable “wow” factor.

🖤 During Black History Month, say hello to another amazing and influential Black Interior Designer: Michel Smith Boyd. He continuously helps to shape the design world and elevate interiors through his own firm and on television.

Michel is recognized as one of the Top 10 African American Designers in the U.S., and Ellen is so proud to call him a friend.

Based in Atlanta, is the host of HGTV’s Luxe For Less and a featured interior designer on Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge and Rock the Block.

Michel is known for celebrating luxury in his projects (and his clothing!), and on television he shows consumers smart budget strategies that deliver high-end results for interiors.

His brands to look for are the MSB Bespoke Rug Collection, MSB X Crate&Barrel, and MSB How To Luxury. Michel’s mission? Making luxury attainable even when not working with a designer, because, as he says, “Everybody deserves luxury!”

🖤 Celebrating Black History Month and honoring influential Black designers who are making a big impact in the interior design world.

Meet Breegan Jane, a friend, celebrated interior designer, author, and popular HGTV host.

In addition to being a mom of two boys, travel explorer, brand ambassador and all-around great person, she‘s known for and has also appeared on Food Network, Discovery+ and HBO Max.

Breegan has her own gorgeous textile and wallpaper collection with , available through Kravet showrooms.

Breegan was raised and started her design business in California but now calls home Ibiza, Spain. Travel has influenced Breegan Jane’s design aesthetic and she does often travel back to the U.S.

What is one thing we truly admire about Breegan? She’s deeply passionate about philanthropy, working with and other nonprofits focused on empowering women in economically challenged places.

At heart, she’s a true beach girl who loves the California coast and has embraced the waters and lifestyle in Spain!

🖤 We're celebrating Black History Month all month long, and today we’re highlighting interior designer Okeatta Brown, founder of O & Company Interiors, and the iconic braid.

The brand’s Victoria Lane Collection transforms the braid design on furniture, which is a powerful symbol of strength and identity in African and Black culture, into a soulful, modern luxury detail.

The Collection is named after Brown’s mother and great-great-grandmother, and has a hand-braided detail included in each piece using high-performance fabrics, with select pieces in Italian leather by Gruppo Mastrotto.

We had the opportunity to interview Okeatta at High Point Market, where she shared her dream for elevating the braid and weaving heritage and storytelling into homes.

Debuting at High Point Market in 2024, in collaboration with StyleCraft Home Collection , Norman Wyatt Home launched over 150 pieces, and that was just the beginning.

As Norman says, “There is so much inspiration around us in our everyday lives, if you take the time to pay attention.”

🌼 One of the most special designs from the newly discovered William Morris artwork is Chamomile, meticulously recreated by Morris & Co.

Designed and produced in England, this Arts & Crafts pattern was originally conceived as a rug. Today, the sketch-like design brings art history to life for a new generation through wallpapers, printed cottons, and other textiles.

Rather than overworking it, the artwork was intentionally left simple, allowing the hand-drawn lines to breathe. The result feels soft, expressive, and quietly beautiful.

🏡 “This is my favorite bed,” HGTV star Erin Napier says to her husband and design partner, Ben Napier. Their new Pure Maple bedroom collection with Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Company feels like true heirloom furniture, something you’d find during a sleepover at grandma’s house.

Erin adds, “You instantly wish you could keep this poster bed, because it's still perfectly in style today.”

With its relaxed silhouette, simplified lines, and Scandinavian-meets-cottage vibe, the bed feels timeless and versatile.
