It may have been too cold for the girls to go outside and play, but I so wanted the perfect snow falling picture. Welp, I opted for playing inside by the window to capture the manic.

“Don’t confuse attendance with alliance.”

Just because people showed up for a season doesn’t mean they were assigned to your story.
Some were only meant to witness your breaking, not be part of your rebuilding.

This valley exerpeince lesson taught me some people attend your pain but aren’t aligned with your purpose. And everyone absent isn’t against you.

In healing, God will reveal who was for you, who was near you, and who was only around you.

📖 Let’s chat about this while reading Remember Me: Where the Wildflowers Grow — a 21-day devotional memoir about finding beauty in what survived.

For my birthday I imagined brushes dipped in color, a canvas splattered with memories, and a photo that looked like perfection in the sense that I allowed what was to simply be.

Welp, I got the photo!!

One of the hardest pills to swallow is, “There’s something wrong with your baby’s heart.” But for us, there was a second pill, feeling like we didn’t make the right decision when advocating for our baby’s health. We never thought of getting a second opinion because of the relationship we’d built with our Prenatal Cardiologist. I wish I knew to ask these questions before finalizing Justice’s birthing center.

We started at Levine Children’sst Medical Center. Justice took her first breath here, and here she nearly lost it twice—silenced by unspoken alarms and the chaos of a routine gone awry. This remains the one of the greatest disaster our family has endured, leaving an indelible mark on us to this day.

We advocated for a second opinion and to transfer Justice to Levine Children’s Hospital. After a successful surgery, and an extended, tedious, mentally draining 26-day stay at the hospital, we finally brought our baby girl home to thrive. We are so grateful God provided provision and confirmation to my husband’s discernment.

Thanks to for these following questions designed to help when you talk with the care team.

This picture was from a personal video I did while I was 22 weeks pregnant. It was a part of the video diaries I created for my baby girl, Justice. With all attempts to speak encouraging words, there was still a layer of sadness I could not shake.

Our baby was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (teh-TRAL-uh-jee of fuh-LOW). It is a rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth (congenital). Narrowing of the lung valve (pulmonary valve stenosis), a hole between the bottom heart chambers (ventricular septal defect), shifting of the body’s main artery (aorta), and thickening of the right lower heart chamber (right ventricular hypertrophy).

These defects, which affect the heart’s structure, cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart and to the rest of the body. A primary concern with our baby girl having this defect was that she’d have blue-tinged skin because her blood didn’t carry enough oxygen.

Some people are not fortunate enough to have early detection, depending on the severity of the defects and symptoms. Sometimes, TOF is not detected until adulthood.

All babies who have tetralogy of Fallot need corrective surgery and attend lifelong regular doctor’s checkups. We no longer question “Why?” because now we know. God dealt us the hand we have because He knew we would play it well.
