LRU in coordination with the Catawba County Library is continuing the six part conversations about the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped to shape our Nation over the last five centuries, through the public film screenings of the six part award-winning documentary program titled "Latino Americans: 500 Years of History".
This past Monday, September 21, the first group from Dr. Parrado-Ortiz's SPA 221 class, led by Lena Martinez, presented the second part of the series, "Empire of Dreams".
We invite all our friends, LRU community, alumni, teachers, students, and the Catawba community to the film screening, followed by a conversation, of the third part, titled "War & Peace". This past Saturday LRU students, lead by Dr. Arturo Ortiz and Dr. Parrado-Ortiz visit Salamanca. We had the opportunity to walk by the Roman Bridge, visit One of the oldest universities in Europe, la Universidad de Salamanca (where is the frog?), la Plaza Mayor, la Casa de las Conchas, etc... Mr. Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, meets the Spanish faculty and students.
Students from are heading to Spain for 5 weeks and will be studying the Spanish Culture & Language. The group leaders are Dr. Adelia Parrado-Ortiz and Dr. Arturo Ortiz. Also, the group will visit the following cities: Avila, Segovia, Toledo, Salamanca, Córdoba, Sevilla, Cadiz, Malaga, y Granada!
