Guerilla marketing 101: newspaper boxes began appearing on the streets of Chicago and San Francisco creating buzz bc they contained newspapers with cryptic messages regarding Griz. This got fans talking, engaging, and working together to decode hidden messages online.

The clues eventually revealed two concert venues. Griz confirmed upcoming performances at the venues days after the newspaper box drop.

This is what makes guerrilla marketing so fun. Rather than simply placing an advertisement in front of an audience, the campaign invited people to participate. A physical object created curiosity that sparked conversations where the physical and digital realms both participated.

Newspaper boxes continue to be a vessel for large scale communication not only in the physical space but artists have figured out how to bring in the digital world as well. Perhaps being able to tap into both markets is where next level success lives.

So cool to witness these campaigns and the artists out there utilizing retro marketing and modernizing it. Thanks for letting us provide a small piece of the infrastructure!

One of our favorite things lately has been watching what happens after our Sidewalk Libraries find their homes.

Our customers bring them to life! They name them, fill them, tend them, and build whole little worlds around them, creating more access to books, community, and joy along the way.

We think that’s pretty cool. And it deserves to be shared.

Over the years, we had the opportunity to create book distribution boxes for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programs, and those projects have always been especially meaningful to us.

We’ve long shared Dolly’s belief in making books more accessible and putting stories into the hands of children and communities. We were honored to play a small part in bringing that shared belief to life.
