Delegate Irene Shin
It is my honor to represent & serve the residents of the 8th District in the VA House of Delegates.

We had a great time tonight with leaders of the local Korean American community. I am deeply grateful to have earned their support for my re-election campaign! A huge thank you to the host committee and volunteers for making this such a successful event!

We had a packed house at last night’s 2025 Legislative Updates Town Hall! Senator Jennifer B. Boysko, Delegate Karen Keys-Gamarra and I had a wonderful time sharing updates and hearing from constituents about casinos, clean water, federal cuts, and more. Thank you to everyone who came out!

I’ve officially filed all of my paperwork to run for re-election! LFG 🫡

Happy Holi to all who celebrate! Today marks a farewell to winter and a hello to spring and a celebration of the victory of good over evil. A reminder that hope and love will prevail in the darkest of times!

This , we honor the trailblazers who came before us & we organize for the work ahead. From enshrining reproductive freedom in the VA constitution to advancing family-friendly economic policies, I am fighting for a Commonwealth where women can truly thrive 💫💪

To all those who are preparing to observe the holy month of Ramadan, may your prayers be answered and may your Ramadan journey be filled with light.

I was thrilled to welcome students of the Korean American Next Generation Council to the Capitol on Monday! These young leaders came to learn about the legislative process and discuss policies on language access and civil rights as well as the importance of civic engagement.

Today is the deadline for committee action in the 2025 Virginia General Assembly Session. I just presented four bills in Senate Commerce & Labor and I have another four in Senate Finance & Appropriations. I'm excited to report that these bills are on their way to the Senate Floor for a vote!
Big day! Edit to add three more bills on their way to the Senate Floor:

I’m pleased to share that HB2742 (Malcolm’s Law) reported out of the full House Health & Human Services Committee this morning with unanimous, bipartisan support. Today, a patient presenting with overdose symptoms seeking care at an ER might be tested for 5 drugs—but not fentanyl. HB2742 will change that and save lives. During the subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, I was joined by Ms. Thurraya Kent who shared with us her family story. I am holding the Kent family -- and every family that has been impacted -- in my thoughts as we work to combat the fentanyl crisis. I’m proud that we’ve made it through the House committee process and I look forward to getting this bill through the Senate and signed into law.

On Sunday, the House Appropriations Committee will publish their proposal for revisions to the 2024-26 state budget. I submitted several amendments on behalf of our community, including a Town of Herndon microtransit pilot program and more attorneys for the Fairfax County Public Defender's Office. More here:
My heart is breaking for the families impacted by the tragic accident last night on approach to DCA National Airport. The family resource center will be shifting today from DCA to the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda. Very grateful to the first responder for their work.

Happy Lunar New Year! May the Year of the Snake bring you and your family luck, prosperity and happiness 🐍

This session, I’m focused on delivering results for Virginia: growing our economy, supporting workers, expanding healthcare access, and protecting consumers. Stay updated on my 2025 legislative priorities: bit.ly/ireneshin2025

My first bill of 2025 reported out of Labor & Commerce today! Healthcare providers should be able to focus all their resources on caring for their patients, not dealing with surprise fees that chip away at their ability to do their jobs. HB2085 ensures they can do just that.
