The Green Rural Redevelopment Organization GRRO
Green Rural Redevelopment Organization (GRRO), was founded in 2012 with a vision to revitalize Henderson and Vance County, North Carolina.
We focus on three critical
issues that plague our community: poverty, food insecurity, and chronic diseases.

We extend our sincere thanks to GRRO Board member, Dr. Devon Noonan, Co-Lead of the Rural Health Equity Hub and Associate Dean for Community Engagement Science and Director of Rural Health Equity at Duke School of Nursing, for leading our impactful “How to Mend a Broken Heart” speaker session.
Dr. Noonan’s insights on rural health equity and community-centered care deeply resonated with our audience and reinforced the importance of partnerships in advancing healthier, more resilient rural communities. We are grateful for her leadership, expertise, and commitment to improving health outcomes where it matters most. 💚

At GRRO we believe no one in our rural communities should go hungry. Through our Feeding the Unhoused program, we’re working to ensure our most vulnerable community members have access to fresh, healthy food. When we invest in food access, we’re investing in people. Together, we can cultivate resilience, restore hope, and ensure everyone has what they need to thrive. Thank you to Community Partners of Hope.

Community Health in Action at GRRO! 💚❤️🖤
The Green Rural Redevelopment Organization (GRRO) was proud to host another impactful session of our Heart to Heart Community Speaker Series featuring special guest Dr. Sanchez.
Dr. Sanchez provided free A1C testing, and additional health checks for both community members and GRRO staff, helping us take meaningful steps toward preventing and managing chronic diseases right here in our rural communities.
Access to fresh, healthy food and preventative healthcare are essential to building stronger, more resilient communities. Events like these ensure our neighbors have the tools and knowledge they need to live healthier lives.
Thank you, Dr. Fransine Marie Sanchez, for investing your time and expertise into the health of our community! ❤️💚🖤
This is just one of many ways GRRO continues to create thriving rural communities.

The only way we create thriving rural communities is together and with our community.
The Green Rural Redevelopment Organization is hard at work at its new Henderson home, partnering across rural communities to address poverty, food insecurity, and chronic disease through programs focused on economic mobility, access to healthy food, and health support.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chester Williams, CEO and Founder of A Better Chance/A Better Community. His unwavering commitment to uplifting rural communities has left a lasting impact and his loss will be felt. GRRO extends our condolences to his family, loved ones, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on in every community he served.

Over the past few days GRRO has been able to deliver food boxes and turkey breasts to seniors and other members of our community to ensure we all have what we need over this Thanksgiving holiday. We’re grateful for our generous partners, supports and staff who help us create thriving rural communities. A special thank you to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
