The Hofstra community is saddened to learn of the passing of Eugene “Gene” Thomas Maccarrone, professor of legal studies in business and accounting, who died on May 1, 2026, at the age of 71.

A Hofstra alumnus, award-winning educator, accomplished attorney, and CPA, Maccarrone dedicated 42 years of service to the University, shaping the lives and careers of thousands of students while serving in numerous leadership roles across the Frank G. Zarb School of Business.

Maccarrone is survived by his wife, Peggy, and his daughters, Kimberley Maccarrone ’08, ’11 and Kristin Altmann ’09, ’19 (Josh).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to the Hofstra Heritage: Maccarrone Family Scholarship.
