I’m scared of what people think of me.

Real talk. I am!

And when I don’t fight that fear, I’m not my best self.

I’m afraid to try new things.
To make the offers.
To share my insights.
To present in that room.
To raise my hand for that opportunity.

If I’m not careful, what people think of me (which is none of my business) can keep me from my purpose and the goals God has placed in my heart.

So here’s what I do:

1. I push against fear and share the work, make the offer, and speak up anyway.

2. I lean on a circle of trusted colleagues who support me and give me honest feedback.

3. I remind myself that other people’s opinions are often shaped by their own experiences, fears, insecurities, and limitations. I don’t have to carry what was never mine to hold. I can receive constructive feedback, release the rest, and keep moving forward.

I refuse to let other people’s opinions hold me hostage.

And neither should you.

There’s nothing more meaningful than hearing how your work has impacted others.

I had the privilege of facilitating three leadership workshops for the incredible team at Restore NYC, and I’m grateful for Tameika Halliman, Director of HR, for sharing these kind words.

I don’t take that lightly.
