I'm thankful and happy to have been a part of the Queen City Ballet 2023 Nutcracker performance with our beautiful daughter Kaitlyn Ruch. It's amazing what the dancers can do. I was a movable prop. The artistic director was telling me to straighten my left leg for this picture. That must be a ballet move I haven't learned, I thought it was straight. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I'm glad I didn't have all the costume changes Kaitlyn and her associates had to pull off.

Luke hurtling the all-state keeper after beating him and his fellow defenders with a gentle pass to his teammate who tapped the ball in the open net for a 1-0 lead.

Congratulations Luke on your selection to AA all-conference playing offense after getting selected last year playing only defense. I'm proud of you. Mom and I really enjoy watching you play.

Sleepy Heads Waking Up – Just Another Day in the Ponderosa Pine Family

It was exciting when the fleck of green showed up in my peripheral vision as I walked by the planting pots. If my last effort at planting Ponderosa Pine seeds is an indicator, now comes the hard part: getting the seedlings established.
The event is so simple, so common in occurrence. Yet it is a part of a process of life that is awe inspiring.
Thanks to Mother Earth for nourishing all the life we share together.

Trees Grow – Reaching to All That Nourishes Them
Last fall I collected some ponderosa pine cones. Left them in a bucket inside for a while and the cones opened making the seeds easy to see. Then I put them in a jar of water and separated the sinkers from the floaters. I’ll plant some of both to see how they do. The next step was to put them in the bottom of the refrigerator for 8 or so weeks – mimicking winter time.
Update – I have some seeds planted. I will plant some more, working with different potting situations.
Are we reaching for that which nourishes us?
Do we have a sense that we know what that is?

One of my biggest lessons in Q1 2023 ?
Pine seeds that sink may be more viable than pine seeds that float.
