Sleeping Giant Endurance Ride

Dave and I have decided to cancel the Sleeping Giant Endurance ride.

We have always tried to be mindful of not leaving much of a footprint on the land, whether hiking, camping, or at an endurance ride. We promised the landowners that no one but us would drive on their property (motor vehicles are not allowed). Unfortunately last year one of our riders had a support person drive through the no trespassing sign, and onto virgin ground. This left a trail that will be there for years. It all made negotiations with landowners more complex for 2026.

Thus, Dave and I are going to err on the side of doing the right thing. The lovely landowners do not benefit from a ride, and their willingness to share their property has been very appreciated. But, because we cannot guarantee that all riders will honor our rules, we are cancelling Sleeping Giant forever.

We had a lovely time putting on the ride, and really appreciate the support you all have given. We love our endurance friends. We hope we will see you again on the trail somewhere.

Somebody is gonna take home this beautiful 6lb Hyperi saddle this weekend. Who is it gonna be? Complete a distance and hope that distance/day and placement are the chosen one!

There was a fire near ride camp but all is good and camp is safe, the land owners and fire chief have all said the ride can continue!

Routes are loaded in PNER Ride with GPS!

You can either log into Ride with GPS and find the routes within Events, or you can use the link below. You will want to download the routes and then access them through your offline library, that way you can put your phone in airplane mode and not use up battery fast! But..you do NOT need to use Ride with GPS, the routes will be marked with ribbon.

Last day to register and not pay a late fee is tomorrow (June 11th).

Vetting starts around 4ish on Friday but you DON’T have to vet right at 4:00. Vets will get you vetted! If there is a long line to vet please don’t get in line…just wait for the line to go down. Ride meeting will be around 6:30 after the dessert contest (listen for the horn honk). If needed, vetting will continue after the ride meeting. After the ride meeting there will be a “new rider” meeting to go over any questions and give some more details.

Ride with GPS loops are done. If you don’t use Ride with GPS, dont worry…the trails will ALL be marked with ribbon for you to navigate the trails. We are currently working on getting the loops added to PNER Ride with GPS so you can download the loops offline, if you are a PNER member. If you aren’t a PNER member you need premium access to download offline and use on the trail. We will let you know when the loops are added to PNER, but for now you can checkout the distance and the elevation for the loops you are riding.

We need volunteers to man some gates, approximately 8 gates to allow riders through….but not the cows! If you are willing to man a gate for a bit on either day, please comment below and more details will be given on Friday (June 13th) at the ride!

Also, all the w**d free hay that Dave is bringing has been spoken for. No more hay is available. So please bring your own.

Ride day is soon approaching. Ride camp will open Wednesday (June 11th). We are again having the dessert contest on Friday at 6 pm. Categories are: pie, cake, gluten free, and WHATEVER. A prize will be awarded for the best in each category. Ride meeting will occur right after. For those who pre-register, their name will be included for random drawings for a prize.

W**d free hay is required in Montana forests. Dave will bring a pickup load to the ride. This will arrive at camp on June 8th. If you need to buy some communicate with Vonnie to ensure you have what you need. $12 per bale, straight grass hay.

Registration is open until June 11th. Once registration closes a $25 fee will be added to the ride fee. Ride fees, registration link, how to contact Vonnie for w**d free hay and more information can be found in the links in the comments.
